May 14 marks 77 years since Al-Nakba, or as it's known by Palestinians, the Catastrophe. Beginning on May 14, 1948, over 750,000 Palestinians were forced off their land by Israeli settlers in a matter of months, with the indispensable help of the British. No inch of land was ceded without massacres.
Since then, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been killed, and now a genocide rages on in Gaza. Yet the Palestinian resistance is far from surrender. The people of Palestine have not given up in their fight for national liberation, and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization stands with them.
The Zionists' cruelty knows no limits. They target hospitals and schools; they use starvation and water deprivation as a tactic. They go beyond missiles and bombs and set refugee tents on fire. The U.S. imperialists foot the bill, and in exchange the Israelis guard their interests. Members of the United Nations condemn the genocide in Gaza in resolutions, and only the Israelis and the United States disagree. It is undeniable to the rest of the world: Israel has no right to exist, and it must be stopped.
On October 7, 2023, something remarkable happened: paragliders carrying the forces of resistance flew into occupied Palestine. They set off a historic offensive, the Al-Aqsa Flood, that emboldened the Axis of Resistance and sped up the clock on Israel's borrowed time. The Israelis deepened the genocide in Gaza, which has killed over 50,000 Gazans and counting. But nonetheless, the forces of resistance in Palestine, Yemen, Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria at the time, fought the Israelis to a standstill. The Zionists took damning military casualties. They went into bunkers and their homes in northern occupied Palestine stood empty. They fled to the U.S.
All over the world, the masses who condemn the genocide stood up. In the U.S., we marched day after day, seized buildings, were arrested at encampments, were kicked out of school, and now some face deportation. In Michigan, supporters of Palestine were raided by state police and the FBI. Repression against the pro-Palestine movement has intensified under Trump, especially on college campuses. Still, the movement will not die. As long as the Palestinians and the Axis of Resistance fight on, so can we.
The Israelis and their Wall Street handlers cannot turn back time. The Arabs and Muslims of the Middle East are the many, and the Israeli settlers are the few. At the end of this protracted struggle, the millions of Palestinians around the world will return. They will reunite all the lands of Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. Time is on their side.
It took the Vietnamese masses and liberation forces over 100 years to free themselves from imperialism. When they did, their struggle inflamed and was inflamed by an international solidarity movement all around the world from which revolutionaries sprang, including our group here in the U.S.
As proletarian internationalists who share the same enemy – the U.S. imperialists – the FRSO is committed to the call for an independent Palestine. We will be marching today until the end of this coming weekend. We will march every Nakba Day until Palestine is finally free.

Il mio rapporto con la "nera" continua a essere problematico
Quasi diciotto anni fa, mi trovai ad avere una conversazione telefonica con un imprenditore per verificare una collaborazione tra la sua azienda e quella per cui stavo lavorando.
A un certo punto chiesi dove si trovasse la sede operativa dell'azienda e l'imprenditore mi disse, quasi sottovoce, il nome della località, ammutolendosi subito dopo.
Dopo qualche attimo dissi qualcosa come "pronto?" pensando che la conversazione si fosse interrotta, ma la linea non era ancora caduta e il mio interlocutore, e poiché non avevo capito bene il nome di quella località, lui me lo ripeté due o tre volte, aggiungendo di volta in volta brandelli di frasi come "eh, sì…", "avrà sentito".
Mi sono trovato un po' in imbarazzo pensando che la località fosse famosa per questioni inerenti il mercato del nostro settore, e mi scusai per non avere minimamente idea di cosa ci fosse di tanto speciale in quella località che, già dal punto di vista geografico, sapevo trovarsi in quella parte di pianura padana in cui la Lombardia supera le paludi del Ticino per insinuarsi in quello che resta del Triangolo Industriale…
"Ah, beh… sa. L'omicidio della ragazza… Le televisioni. Avrà sentito, no?" e io che rispondevo "Ah, sì… Giusto: non avevo collegato!", perché rispondere "No guardi, Lei neanche può immaginare cosa cazzo me ne frega a me della cronaca nera…" pareva poco urbano. La "nera" è da sempre il tipo di cronaca per cui nutro il minor interesse, addirittura meno rispetto al gossip, alle notizie di cronaca locale e alle gare di barca a vela.
Non sono una persona sensibile o impressionabile, la morte non mi impressiona particolarmente e talvolta apprezzo anche la visione di film o serie TV su serial killer, crimini violenti, cold case e tutto quel genere che va dai capolavori come Il Silenzio degli Innocenti o la divertentissima serie Dexter, alle produzioni seriali e sempre uguali a sé stesse di Bruno Heller o di Dick Wolf, che ormai in casa chiamiamo affettuosamente Cazzolupo. Come se non bastasse sono anche interessato alle modalità che le foze dell'ordine adottano durante le loro indagini. Ma la cronaca nera, anche no, grazie! Anche perché, a quanto ho potuto capire, i grandi casi di cronaca nera non sono proprio casi di condotta ineccepibile da parte degli investigatori...
Tuttavia, grazie a quella conversazione, Garlasco divenne una delle poche parole che io riesca a ricordare e a collegare a quella gigantesca discarica di parole che promana dai casi di cronaca nera; una delle poche fare compagnia a "Rosa e Olindo", allo "Zio Michele" e alla sua "Avetrana", unico altro toponimo "nero" di cui abbia memoria.
Negli scorsi giorni ho sentito di nuovo il nome di Garlasco e di alcune surreali code di indagine che si sarebbero sviluppate e ho ripensato al fatto che ci sono cose per cui non sono ancora cambiato:
1) la cronaca nera continua a non fregarmi un cazzo
2) continuo a non capire per quale motivo le persone intorno a me siano così morbosamente interessate a queste notizie.
E mentre pensavo al fatto che questi casi fossero "roba da vecchi", ho scoperto solo due giorni fa che una delle youtuber più seguite dai ragazzini italiani è una specie di chiaraferragni -ma più odiosa- che racconta, con faccina ammiccante e un molesto abuso di anglismi, le storie dei serial killer più famosi (lei li chiama "serial" non so se per sopraggiunta confidenza o per evitare demonetizzazioni).
Comunque sia, il fatto che ragazzini e ragazzine in età scolare seguano una youtuber che parla di crimini efferati è un fenomeno che non riesco a comprendere e a inquadrare, ma che lo considererò esso stesso un sottoinsieme della "cronaca nera". Credo quindi che quello dello "sticazzi" sia l'approccio più sereno che potrò adottare.

Io un anno fa mi trovavo in questo posto quasi surreale; il Faro abbandonato vicino al Vulcão dos Capelinhos, nell'isola di Faial alle Azzorre.
Più passa il tempo più, mi sembra quello che è , un posto ai confini del mondo che ti fa sentire tanto lontano da tutto .
È interessante conoscere la storia di questo faro , che è stato abbandonato in fretta e furia, dal momento che l'eruzione è iniziata a pochi metri da lì e c'era il rischio che gli occupanti restassero uccisi .
Oggi è una specie di testimone del cataclisma che ha sconvolto di recente l'isola .

Io invece ricado nella generazione co-co-pro che diventerà un problema sociale quando tutti in massa non riceveremo una pensione sufficiente a sopravvivere.

Però non è esattamente la stessa cosa, perché le pensioncine sarebbero un po' come gli alberghi ma più piccole.
Forse "mezza pensione" ti dava solo da dormire e la colazione?
Comunque affittare una stanza per le vacanze s'è sempre fatto, anche prima dei "biènbi".

in reply to Ju • • •ci sono delle sfumature diverse. C'è la pensione che è un alberghetto, ma un tempo di parlava anche di anche "prendere una stanza a pensione" in casa altrui*, che è sostanzialmente il concetto del "bienbi". È pure vero molti attuali "bienbi" non hanno nulla a che vedere con l'idea originale, ma ormai indicano qualsiasi struttura ricettiva che non sia - almeno per il fisco - un albergo.
*Ricordo personaggi che stavano "a pensione" in varie opere di Grazia Deledda

in reply to Ann(in)a • • •sono anche un ripiego per chi ha una casetta o un monolocale che vorrebbe affittare ma ormai per i piccolissimi proprietari affittare o subaffittare è talmente un casino che col "bienbi" almeno ti salvi...
Per la pensione, mi viene in mente mia zia (sorella di mia nonna) che era maestra e andava a pensione in casa quando insegnava nei paesi in montagna o sul lago.
