Today in History August 30, 1797: Mary Shelley, English novelist and playwright was born. She is most famous for her novel, “Frankenstein.” However, she wrote several other novels, including the historical novels Valperga (1823) and Perkin Warbeck (1830), the apocalyptic novel The Last Man (1826). She married the romantic poet, Percy Bysshe Shelly. Her father was the early anarchist philosopher, William Godwin. And her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, was a writer and a feminist activist. Mary Shelley was a political radical throughout her life, influenced by the anarchism of her father.

Today in Labor History August 30, 1800: Gabriel Prosser postponed his planned slave rebellion in Richmond, Virginia. The authorities still arrested and executed him, along with 20 others. While the revolt never occurred, it was the one event that most directly confronted the founding fathers with the enormous gulf between their ideal of liberty and their sleazy accommodations to slavery. It led to a rash of new legislation curtailing the rights of free African Americans, as well as laws prohibiting the education and hiring out of enslaved black people. Richmond, at the time of the planned revolt, was a black-majority town, with 39% of its residents being enslaved. There was a community whipping post, where people were brutalized publicly. There was also a growing number of free black people in Richmond, due in part to the influence of abolitionist Quakers and Methodists, as well as numerous refugees from the Haitian Revolution, a few years prior. The goal of the uprising was to completely end slavery in Virginia by holding Virginia's Governor, James Monroe, hostage to negotiate for their freedom. In 2007, Governor Tim Kaine informally pardoned Gabriel.
Arna Bontemps, a member of the Harlem Rennaisance, wrote Black Thunder (1936), a historical novel based on Gabriel's Rebellion. Alex Haley mentions it in his book, Roots. Barbara Chase-Riboud writes about it in her 1979 novel, Sally Hemings. And "Gabriel, the Musical" was produced in Richmond Virginia in 2022, with libretto by Jerold Solomon, Foster Solomon and Ron Klipp, and Music & Lyrics by Ron Klipp.

Today in Labor History August 30, 1813: The Fort Mims massacre took place during the Creek War. The Red Sticks faction of the Creek Nation, under the command of head warriors Peter McQueen and William Weatherford, stormed Fort Mims and defeated the militia garrison. Afterward, they massacred nearly all the remaining Creek métis, white settlers, and militia at the fort. Their victory spread panic throughout the Southeast. Settlers fled. Thousands of whites fled their settlements for Mobile, which struggled to accommodate them. The Red Stick victory was one of the greatest Native American victories. They were facilitated by the fact that Federal troops were bogged down at the northern front of the War of 1812. However, local state militias, commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson and allied with Cherokees, ultimately defeated the Red Sticks Creek faction at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, ending the Creek War.
The Fort Mims massacre is cited in Gone with the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell. Grandma Fontaine shares her memories of seeing her entire family murdered in the Creek uprising following the massacre as a lesson to Scarlett.

Today in Labor History August 30, 1948: Fred Hampton revolutionary activist and chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party was born. He founded the antiracist, anti-capitalist, working-class Rainbow Coalition, a prominent multicultural political organization that included Black Panthers, Young Patriots (which organized poor whites), and the Young Lords (which organized Hispanics), and an alliance among major Chicago street gangs to help them end infighting and work for social change. In December 1969, the Chicago police & FBI drugged Hampton, shot him and killed him in his bed during a predawn raid. They sprayed more than 90 gunshots throughout his apartment. They also killed Black Panther Mark Clark and wounded several others. In January 1970, a jury concluded that Hampton's and Clark's deaths were justifiable homicides.
Stephen King refers to Hampton in his novel “11/22/63” (2012). In that book, a character suggests that if you could travel back in time to prevent John F. Kennedy's assassination, it could have a ripple effect that also prevented Hampton's assassination.
For a really great history of the Young Patriots movement and organizing and solidarity among poor white radicals, you should read “Hillbilly Nationalists” by Amy Sonnie and James Tracy.

pues la integracion de #homeAssistant que uso para mis paneles solares parece que dejará de funcionarme y tendré que adoptarla. He hecho un fork y estoy aprendiendo Python para actualizarla (parece que usa cosas depreciadas y muy viejas).

Building a Shifting Ratchet Wrench
Convenient though they may be, [Trevor Faber] found some serious shortcomings in shifting spanners: their worm gears are slow to adjust and prone to jamming, they don’t apply even force to all faces of a bolt head, and without a ratchet, they’re rather slow. To overcome these limitations, he designed his own adjustable ratchet wrench.
The adjustment mechanism is based on a pair of plates with opposing slots; the wrench faces are mounted on pins which fit into these slots, and one plate rotates relative to the other, the faces slide inwards or outwards. A significant advantage of this design is that, since one plate is attached to the wrench’s handle, some of the torque applied to the wrench tightens its grip on the bolt. To let the wrench loosen as well as tighten bolts, [Trevor] simply mirrored the mechanism on the other side of the wrench. Manufacturing proved to be quite a challenge: laser cutting wasn’t precise enough for critical parts, and CNC control interpolation resulted in some rough curves which caused the mechanism to bind, but after numerous iterations, [Trevor] finally got a working tool.
To use the wrench, you twist an outer ring to open the jaws, place them over the bolt, then let them snap shut. One nice touch is that you can close this wrench over a bolt, let go of it, and do something else without the wrench falling off the bolt. Recessed bolts were a bit of an issue, but a chamfer ought to improve this. It probably won’t be replacing your socket set, but it looks like it could make the odd job more enjoyable.
If you prefer a more conventional shifting wrench, you can make a miniature out of an M20 nut. It’s also possible to make a shifting Allen wrench.

I doppi sensi e i giochi di parole sono sempre stati la nostra passione ma nel tempo abbiamo scoperto un modo nuovo di approcciarsi alla scrittura per far riflettere e nascondere messaggi “subliminali” nelle frasi: gli anagrammi che, se usati bene, diventano un mezzo di satira potentissimo.
101 Anagrammi Zen
Cosa vuoi che sia un anagramma, si prendono le lettere di una parola e se ne creano altre di senso compiuto cambiando le posizioni di consonanti e vocali. Eravamo comunque convinti che dagli arci-noti “donna” “danno”, “mela” “male”, “la verità rivelata” o “teatro” “attore” non si potesse andare troppo lontano.
Alla fine però ci siamo dovuti ricredere quando abbiamo conosciuto un libro “101 anagrammi zen” da cui si è sviluppata una comunità molto attiva sui social commerciali (X, Facebook, Instagram).
Il primo incontro con 101 anagrammi zen è stato una notizia del Corriere Della Sera su Gianni Morandi e nei commenti al post in Facebook era scritto così:
101 anagrammi zen:“Gianni Morandi —> i manoni grandi”.
L’artista in questione ha davvero le mani grandi, e con quell’anagramma abbiamo capito quanto tali giochi di parole possano diventare un’arma potentissima, perché se parlando di Adamo ed Eva esce fuori il solito “mela = male”, ecco arrivare “social = il caos”! Oppure “Piero Angela = genial opera”, “Giacomo Leopardi = godiamoci parole” (ma anche “godi, porco maiale”)!
In seguito, sfogliando la pagina, abbiamo trovato satira potente verso politici e personaggi sportivi ma anche frasi a effetto l’una stereotipo dell’altra.
Ci sono persone secondo le quali un uomo e una donna non possono essere amici? Perfetto! Noi non siamo d’accordo con un simile pensiero perché siamo un uomo e una donna amici da diversi anni, ma un partecipante al network degli anagrammi ha creato un gioco molto carino che noi riportiamo così com’è, scusandoci per non citare l’autore del quale ci sfugge purtroppo il nome:
“L’amicizia tra uomo e donna?” —> “T’amo, inizia un caldo amore”.
Ma come si creano questi giochi di parole?
Fin dai primi giorni in cui abbiamo conosciuto “101 anagrammi zen” ci chiedevamo come fosse possibile ottenere la frase anagrammata come continuazione, sensata, di quella originale e nel tempo abbiamo capito il trucco: prendi l’originale, estrai una parola chiave da cui partire e sposta le lettere; sicuramente, l’autore dell’anagramma sull’amicizia, avrà estratto “amore” dalla frase “l’amicizia tra uomo e donna” e piano piano ha ricomposto gli altri termini con le lettere mancanti.
Nulla di magico quindi, è tutta questione di quali siano le idee dell’enigmista! Infatti noi potremmo continuare l’anagramma ponendo le dovute condizioni. Amore sì, ma…

Iniziamo, ma cada l’untore!
Giusto perché se l’amicizia è con Valentino Talluto non si metta in testa di fare strani scherzi perché lui addosso ha l’HIV quello cattivo, non quello senziente dei nostri racconti.
Ma parliamo d’altro. Gli omofobi quando si lamentano di venir silenziati per le loro farneticazioni, mettono sempre in mezzo “il pensiero unico”.
Questo è fin troppo banale, già “eros + peni = pensiero” sarebbe sufficiente a identificare i soggetti ma ce ne sta uno ancora di più esplicito:
Eros + i peni in culo = il pensiero unico
Oppure “l’unico pensiero? —> Eros, peni in cu…” Insomma basta, ci siamo capiti.
Abbiano solo il coraggio di negarlo, adesso! Meglio che ci auto-censuriamo.
Dopodiché, essendo noi un blog a tema “stigma e HIV”, abbiamo accettato la sfida creando il personaggio virus HIV senziente che aiutasse gli umani a risolvere i problemi. E come? Con gli enigmi, naturalmente! Solo con la pratica si riescono a trovare giochi coinvolgenti anche se, alla fine, non li usiamo spesso perché non tutti amano fermarsi a riflettere quando leggono.
Costruire un anagramma positivo
Il più semplice: “genitore uno —> untore genio”, oppure “chi vuole —> culo e HIV?” Non necessita una laurea in enigmistica per arrivarci. Diverso invece è per un evento musicale su cui abbiamo trovato un messaggio pazzesco.
Il cantante Elio e il figlio di Enzo Jannacci avevano organizzato una serie di concerti estivi chiamata:
“Ci vuole orecchio in tour”.
Va bene, “in tour” è fin troppo banale. Sposta la “u” all’inizio e la “i” alla fine, senza toccare le lettere in mezzo: “untori” è sotto gli occhi di tutti.
Dopodiché scomponendo “orecchio” esce “io cerco” lasciando fuori l’h, che noi porteremo sulle parole precedenti: “io cerco untori, chi vuole”.
Ma considerando “chi vuole” come anagramma di “culo e HIV”…
“Ci vuole orecchio in tour”, vale a dire “io cerco culo, untori e HIV”. Bene, complimenti. Annuncio sporcaccione servito in un piatto d’argento.
Oppure su un giornale ci è capitato sotto gli occhi questo: “a scuola positivo”, riferito a un ragazzino che si era presentato in classe col covid e aveva fatto strage.
E noi per non farci mancare l’anagramma abbiamo usato le lettere in questo modo:
“Si, culo a posto, vai —> a scuola positivo!”
Immaginando la scena del ragazzotto col sedere per aria e chi gli dà un bello sculaccione.
Amilcare Pollini
Riportiamo dal CICAP (Comitato Italiano per il Controllo delle Affermazioni sulle Pseudoscienze) la storia di Amilcare Pollini. Questo personaggio, morto nel 1957, si riteneva “il duomo di Milano” (dio più uomo) insomma un sedicente nuovo Messia. Poi non importa se la parola “duomo” deriva da “Domus” cioè casa, e con eventuali incroci fra uomo e divinità poco abbia a che fare.
Il tizio, influenzato dalla moglie “filosofa esoterica”, si è inventato una teoria secondo cui “ogni parola rivela la sua funzione” e “la lotta fra Dio e il demonio si nasconde nelle parole”.
Perfetto amico, per te l’anagramma maschilista “donna” = “danno” è azzeccato ma intanto caro Amilcare fatti creare un personaggio ispirato a te.

Hat jemand von euch zufällig Ahnung von VDSL/VDSL2?
Ich bekomme mit meinem #DSLAM und meiner Fritzbox 7490 zwar erfolgreich ADSL2+ zum laufen, aber über VDSL2 im Default Profil kommt kein Sync zustande.
Die Box scheint den Logs im DSLAM nach auch ständig zu reconnecten
