Das Archipel unserer Gesellschaft
Die soziale Fragmentierung des Fediverse zeigt, dass digitale Räume weit mehr sind als technische Konstruktionen. Sie sind Spiegelbilder unserer gesellschaftlichen Vielfalt, Orte, an denen unterschiedliche Lebensweisen, Interessen und Kommunikationsstile aufeinanderprallen und koexistieren. Auf manchen Inseln herrscht Ruhe, auf anderen Energie und Bewegung, auf wieder anderen ein kreativer Fluss. Das Erleben dieser Vielfalt zeigt, dass digitale Räume genauso nuanciert sein können wie die physische Welt, und dass sie – wenn man aufmerksam hinschaut – tiefgehende Einblicke in die Art geben, wie Menschen Gemeinschaft gestalten.

Jede Plattform bildet eine Art Mikrokosmos, in dem bestimmte Nutzungsweisen, Rituale und Themen im Vordergrund stehen. Menschen, die Ruhe und Konzentration suchen, finden sie auf ihren Inseln, ebenso wie diejenigen, die intensive Debatten oder kreative Zusammenarbeit schätzen. Die Vielfalt der Inseln verhindert, dass eine einzelne Dynamik alle anderen dominiert, und schafft damit einen Raum, in dem verschiedene Lebensstile und Kommunikationsformen gleichwertig nebeneinander bestehen können. @bitprophet `git archive` is pretty often used to by projects I follow to create release archives in a repeatable way. The export-ignore and export-subst facilities¹ offer hooks and tooling to streamline this use case. I think git-archive does get care and polish to support the specific use cases it's currently aimed to fulfill, but it's not a long list, and perhaps the docs focus more on how the features work than why they were created.
I think that's what the export-subst feature provides in the link above? That's how I've used it, anyhow. I agree it would be nicer if that feature were built in and named rather than provided as a bucket of tools though.
(edit: lol there's a markup error in the Pro Git 2nd. Ed. book at that link in the final example of the export-subst section! Right, filing a pull request to fix that up.)

I was disgusted to see a couple of zebra crossings and a mini roundabout near my parents had been defaced with red crosses when we popped round to visit them at the weekend.
Today when I dropped by I saw someone had spray painted the crosses white. This is clearly not proper road paint, some anonymous person has taken it up on themselves to make sure no one feels unsafe and unwelcome in our community and well done that person.

My experience in the past has been that it's a lot better to have a CoC in place before you need it, rather than trying to write one as a crisis is unfolding.
I think if this server is going to be linked to from the SocialCG and other W3C sub-groups, it should probably have a stated code of conduct that's compatible with the W3C's Positive Work Environment policy:

L'overdose continua a mietere migliaia di vittime in Europa, sottolineando la necessità di un'azione urgente. La Giornata internazionale di sensibilizzazione sull'overdose (organizzata dal 2012 dall'ente australiano no-profit per la salute pubblica, il Penington Institute) cade il 31 agosto. L'agenzia europea per le droghe, l' #EUDA, segnala a riguardo la sua risorsa on-line sui decessi indotti da droghe in Europa, evidenziando la portata della crisi e identifica la cocaina, i nuovi oppioidi sintetici (nitazeni) e il consumo combinato di più sostanze come principali preoccupazioni.
In tutta l'UE, l'overdose rimane una delle principali cause di morte prevenibili tra i consumatori di droghe. Nel 2023, oltre 7.500 persone nell'UE hanno perso la vita per overdose, cifra che sale a circa 8.100 se si includono Turchia e Norvegia. In particolare, quattro vittime su cinque erano uomini, la maggior parte dei quali tra la fine dei trent'anni e l'inizio dei quarant'anni. Gli oppioidi sono stati coinvolti in oltre due terzi dei decessi indotti da droghe in Europa, sebbene i modelli nazionali varino. I decessi correlati al fentanil e ai suoi derivati sono rimasti stabili nel 2023, con alcuni casi collegati a farmaci derivati piuttosto che a fentanil illegale.
La cocaina è stata coinvolta in oltre un quarto dei decessi indotti da droghe nei 20 paesi che hanno fornito dati sia per il 2022 che per il 2023, con numeri in aumento da 956 nel 2022 a 1.051 nel 2023. In alcuni paesi, la cocaina è stata segnalata in percentuali più elevate di decessi indotti da droghe rispetto al resto d'Europa, tra cui Portogallo (65%), Spagna (60%) e Germania (30%). L'evidenza di un consumo di più sostanze era comune, con gli oppioidi presenti in molti decessi correlati alla cocaina.
Gli oppioidi nitazenici sono stati collegati a epidemie di avvelenamento localizzate in tutta Europa, in particolare in Estonia e Lettonia. In Estonia, i decessi indotti da droghe sono balzati da 82 casi nel 2022 a 119 nel 2023, con i nitazeni implicati in oltre la metà (52%) di questi decessi. La Lettonia ha registrato un aumento ancora più marcato, da 63 decessi nel 2022 a 154 nel 2023, con i nitazeni presenti in due terzi (66%) dei casi.
Si evidenzia anche il ruolo dei farmaci nei decessi per poliassunzione, con benzodiazepine rilevate in oltre un terzo dei casi nella maggior parte dei paesi che hanno riportato risultati autoptici. L'alcol è stato menzionato in oltre il 20% dei casi in almeno sei paesi e sono stati segnalati anche decessi correlati a farmaci oppioidi, come ossicodone e tramadolo.
L'EUDA sottolinea che i decessi per overdose sono influenzati da molti fattori, tra cui il tipo di droga, le modalità di utilizzo, le interruzioni del trattamento e la ridotta tolleranza. L'intento suicidario è stato segnalato più spesso tra i decessi indotti da droghe nelle donne rispetto agli uomini, sottolineando la necessità di una prevenzione attenta al genere.
Prevenire i decessi per overdose è una priorità della Strategia e del Piano d'azione dell'UE in materia di droga 2021-25, che include misure come la personalizzazione degli interventi per i gruppi ad alto rischio, l'aumento della disponibilità e dell'uso del naloxone e l'espansione dei trattamenti basati sull'evidenza.

That expedited removal process has for nearly three decades been used to quickly return migrants apprehended at the border. But in January, the administration expanded its scope to cover non-citizens apprehended anywhere in the United States who could not show they had been in the country for two years.
The policy mirrored one the Trump administration adopted in 2019 that Democratic President Joe Biden's administration later rescinded, and immigration authorities have made "aggressive" use of the new removal power in recent months, Cobb said.
But she said that unlike the population of migrants traditionally subject to expedited removal who were detained shortly after crossing the border, the group now being targeted had long since entered the country.
"That means that they have a weighty liberty interest in remaining here and therefore must be afforded due process under the Fifth Amendment," she said. "When it exponentially expanded the population subject to expedited removal, the Government did not, however, in any way adapt its procedures to this new group of people."

US court rules many of Trump's global tariffs are illegal
A US appeals court has ruled that most tariffs issued by US President Donald Trump are illegal, setting up a potential legal showdown that could upend his foreign policy agenda.
The ruling affects Trump's so-called "reciprocal" tariffs, imposed on most countries around the world, as well as other tariffs slapped on China, Mexico and Canada.
In a 7-4 decision, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit rejected Trump's argument that the tariffs were permitted under an emergency economic powers act, calling them "invalid as contrary to law".
The ruling will not take effect until 14 October, to give the administration time to ask the US Supreme Court to take up the case.

4chan and Kiwi Farms Sue the UK Over its Age Verification Law

Both entities say in the lawsuit that they are wholly based in the U.S. and that they do not have any operations in the United Kingdom and are therefore not subject to local laws. Ofcom’s attempts to fine and block 4chan and Kiwi Farms, and the lawsuit against Ofcom, highlight the messiness involved with trying to restrict access to specific websites or to force companies to comply with age verification laws.The lawsuit calls Ofcom an “industry-funded global censorship bureau.”
“Ofcom’s ambitions are to regulate Internet communications for the entire world, regardless of where these websites are based or whether they have any connection to the UK,” the lawsuit states. “On its website, Ofcom states that ‘over 100,000 online services are likely to be in scope of the Online Safety Act—from the largest social media platforms to the smallest community forum.’”
Both 4chan and Kiwi Farms are notorious online communities that are infamous for their largely anything-goes attitude. Users of both forums have been tied to various doxing and harassment campaigns over the years. Still, they have now become the entities fighting the hardest against the UK’s disastrous Online Safety Act, which requires websites and social media platforms to perform invasive age verification checks on their users, which often requires people to upload an ID or otherwise give away their personal information in order to access large portions of the internet. Sites that do not comply are subject to huge fines, regardless of where they are based. The law has resulted in an internet where users need to provide scans of their faces in order to access, for example, certain music videos on Spotify.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation has said the Online Safety Act “is a threat to the privacy of users, restricts free expression by arbitrating speech online, exposes users to algorithmic discrimination through face checks, and leaves millions of people without a personal device or form of ID excluded from accessing the internet.”
Ofcom began investigating 4chan over alleged violations of the Online Safety Act in June. On August 13, it announced a provisional decision and stated that 4chan had “contravened its duties” and then began to charge the site a penalty of £20,000 (roughly $26,000) a day. Kiwi Farms has also been threatened with fines, the lawsuit states.
"American citizens do not surrender our constitutional rights just because Ofcom sends us an e-mail. In the face of these foreign demands, our clients have bravely chosen to assert their constitutional rights," Preston Byrne, one of the lawyers representing 4chan and Kiwi Farms, told 404 Media.
"We are aware of the lawsuit," an Ofcom spokesperson told 404 Media. "Under the Online Safety Act, any service that has links with the UK now has duties to protect UK users, no matter where in the world it is based. The Act does not, however, require them to protect users based anywhere else in the world.”

Ein wichtiger Gedanke dazu ist, dass Sanktionen gegen den Staat Israel durch Europa auch Auswirkungen auf die Beziehungen mit der USA haben wird.
Auf Distanz gehen zu Trumps Regime, statt immer weiter nach dessen Pfeife zu tanzen wäre überfällig. Europa muss seine Demokratien gegen brutale, rechtsextreme Antidemokraten verteidigen. Sanktionen gegen den Staat Israel sind auch ein wichtiger Teil davon.
Es ist ja auch eine einfache, moralische Frage:
Ist es moralisch vertretbar Völkermord zur unterstützen?
