KDE Plasma 6.5 color blindness correction now features grayscale
KDE Plasma 6.5 now features a new color blindness correction mode in the accessibility settings of the KDE Plasma desktop. This new mode desaturates all colors so that everything is in the scale of grays, called grayscale. This basically turns your desktop to what it would look like before colors were introduced to televisions and cameras.
This mode can be turned on by going to KDE Settings > Accessibility > Color Blindness Correction and adjusting the Problematic Colors entry to All (grayscale mode). After that, all colors will be turned to grayscale colors in your desktop, just like below: Additionally, development of KDE Plasma 6.6 was reportedly in the works, with new features being added to the next version, such as the improved color blindness correction settings look.

There are problems in development in reading skills among some secondary school pupils... but rather than look at the real problems in schools (from workforce management, to estate maintenance, from curriculum management to use fo social media & issues of student anxiety), the Govt. is rather considering yet another mandatory set of tests...
Many years ago, I took part in a local library initiative, which involved helping adults with reading difficulties to improve their reading skills. To cut a long story short, I was ashamed of my preconceptions. Many weren't slower people who couldn't read, they'd been let down by the education system, by their families, by society at large. Although the coping strategies they'd developed were impressive. I imagine the issue hasn't improved since then.
@Fragarach my wife is a volunteer reading coach with ReadEasy. I support them in other ways There are local groups in most areas, they’re always on the look out for new volunteers. Very worthwhile organisation
@Fragarach Being able to create and run a successful business and employ several people, despite being unable to read or write was a huge achievement.
Over time, I learned about his background and released that he’d been badly let down by the system and that his frustrations led to his frequent issues with the law.
Our friendship grew and anytime he needed help with official documents, or just needed advice in general, he’d come to us (in Cardiff) from his home in Merthyr.
@Fragarach Over time, he met and married his wife, raised her daughter as his own and they had a son. They bought a house and settled down to family life.
My wife was head of learning and development with a police service and she offered to help him with his literacy when she retired which was in 2016.
He can now read and write, which has enriched his and his family’s lives and his business has grown. He still cleans our windows and still comes to us for advice!
@TCMuffin That's lovely! Thank you for sharing! It's interesting how people can overcome disadvantages that might be thought reduce them in some way. There's a man in his sixties who lives near us. He's autistic, and officially registered as learning disabled as a child. But he doesn't want to stop working, and still employs several people in his landscaping business. For which he himself is required to hold a number of safety certications.
@Fragarach That's really lovely too and it reminds me that our window cleaning friend holds safety certifications too...even when he couldn't read.
So many people are written off, often far too young and usually without any positive intervention or support.
However, our window cleaning friend and your landscaping neighbour show that, given the right environment, many people who have been written off can make a contribution to society.
@TCMuffin @Fragarach Recommend readeasy.org.uk/ - organised and supportive - currently coaching a mother of 3 primary school kids who wants/needs to be able to navigate their schooling - and "better" her English. Not always easy, but v rewarding over the longer term
Zero mention in the article (and no doubt the government announcement) of actual barriers to reading, such as visual stress, visual impairment and dyslexia.
Unless these issues are considered before introducing a testing regime, the levels of reading will not improve.
