Spesso si cita il "peer-review system" usato in ambito scientifico (cioè, gli articoli prima di essere pubblicati dovrebbero essere scrutinati e approvati da altri scienziati) come sistema che produce risultati affidabili.
Niente di più lontano dalla realtà. Purtroppo.
C'è una quantità pazzesca di articoli che vengono scritti ogni giorno, ogni ora, e sempre meno ricercatori che abbiano voglia/tempo per controllare gli articoli altrui. E la forbice si sta allargando sempre di più.
E nota: sono proprio i ricercatori più giovani, cioè quelli il cui futuro più dipende da un sistema di peer-review sano, a disertare. Forse perché sono spesso costretti a scrivere e scrivere. Mentre l'attività di refereeing non viene adeguatamente considerata.
Risultato: moltissimi articoli, anzi direi a occhio e croce la maggioranza, vengono pubblicati senza che nessuno si sia davvero mai preso la briga di controllarli.
La situazione varia da settore a settore, da rivista a rivista, ma la situazione generale è drammatica.
L'intero sistema si sta rompendo, o forse si è già rotto, non saprei.
Certo è che il proliferare dell'uso di LLM farà più danni che altro.

Questa situazione deriva dall'imperativo "publish or perish" dell'accademia neoliberale (che cioè risponde a dettati economici e non scientifici), che è diventato ormai "publish and perish".
Obbligati a pubblicare di tutto, sempre di più, per potersi garantire qualche possibilità di carriera, finanziamenti...
La situazione è nota, il disagio all'interno dell'accademia è altissimo (con grandi ricadute sulla salute mentale) ma non sembra che si riesca a cambiare il sistema e a trovare modalità sane per mandarlo avanti.
@Madmonkey io sono sostanzialmente fuori dall'accademia perché non sto riuscendo a vincere nessun bando né nessun finanziamento dopo il dottorato, ma l'assurdità di questo sistema, osservata dalla mia posizione, è talmente palese che davvero non si capisce come si riesca ad andare avanti (sempre peggio) senza cambiare nulla... @quantumquia
Ecco... il punto più forte nelle mie discussioni con seguaci di terrapiattisti e no-vax (quando ancora ci perdevo tempo) era proprio che gli articoli pubblicati su riviste scientifiche erano autorevoli per via della revisione tra pari e adesso mi sparisce anche questo punto di appoggio.
Ma quindi perché gli articoli di Feynman dovrebbero essere più autorevoli dei video di Red Ronnie (a parte l'ovvia constatazione che quando scriveva Feynman forse la peer review funzionava ancora)?

beh, attenzione: di per sé, dubitare delle "fonti autorevoli" e verificarne le scoperte (cercando di falsificarle con esperimenti) è proprio ciò che caratterizza (o dovrebbe caratterizzare) la scienza.
il problema del terrapiattista non è che non crede a Feynman o a Galileo, ma che non crede ai propri occhi nel momento in cui viaggiando continuamente sullo stesso parallelo verso est, si ritrova al punto di partenza.
Ma non è una cosa che torna utile per restare informato su cosa bolle in pentola?
Cioè, a me non importa niente se hanno trovato un principio attivo che riduce del 30% la mortalità dei topi con tumore al pancreas ma se fossi un oncologo ricercatore magari sì...
Io (che non sono un accademico né sono interessato a diventarlo pur considerando ricerca e insegnamento fra le più nobili attività umane) leggo articoli scientifici nei miei ambiti di competenza (informatica, cibernetica, sociologia, psicologia, finanza...) per alcune ragioni principali:
aggiornamento / curiosità (che ha poi ricadute lavorative, permettendomi di essere un programmatore migliore)
critica tecnico-politica: molto spesso gli articoli "scientifici" veicolano pre-giudizi di varia natura, che orientano l'interpretazione dei dati raccolti fino ad invalidare le conclusioni anche a fronte di processi rigorosi (questo è particolarmente frequente nei paper riguardanti #AI, #LLM etc...)
Qualche volta alcuni ricercatori mi chiedono di effettuare una "peer review" dei loro pre-print, e in tali casi cerco di fornire critiche, correzioni e considerazioni utili a migliorare il loro lavoro, ma ovviamente essendo io fuori dal circolo degli accademici, rimane un'attività informale, che migliora auspicabilmente la qualità degli articoli, ma non influenza in alcun modo la carriera dei ricercatori in questione.
D'altro canto, se l'obiettivo della ricerca scientifica fosse aumentare la conoscenza scientifica, è ragionevole aspettarsi che questa non si concentri esclusivamente fra le mura dell'accademia.
In quest'ottica @aisa@poliversity.it propone nella scienza aperta e nell'uso pubblico della ragione l'unica credibile via di uscita dalla enshittification della ricerca scientifica. Purtroppo c'è ancora tanto lavoro da fare.
Capisco perfettamente. La cosa si fa ancora più irritante quando pensi alle case editrici: uno scrive l'articolo, le paga per farlo pubblicare, poi le paga per poterlo leggere, e lavora gratis per loro anche come referee.
In Unione Sovietica ti pagavano in quanto autore. Mi pare di ricordare che ancora solo una decina di anni fa mi diedero qualcosa quando pubblicai su ПРОБЛЕМЫ ПЕРЕДАЧИ ИНФОРМАЦИИ (Problems of Information Transmission). E mi tradussero l'articolo in russo gratis.
