A5: It depends on what the source material is like. Usually that means yes, I am striving for symmetry.
HOWEVER
After I made my tassets for Théodred, it was pointed out to me that the originals are NOT symmetrical as I had assumed. The attached photo is the best reference to show this, and it's actually Théoden, but it's the same. The asymmetry is best observed on the curved left and right edges, and how the leather horses do or don't follow the curve. I did not adjust my armor or pattern, nor do I intend to.
