ICYMI: Updates from the 6/28 meeting

ICYMI

Arizona – Arizona held a special election to fill in a vacancy for AZPP Lookout/Outreach Director. Their IT committee also met to discuss web security. A new “About Us” section has been created on the AZPP website. AZPP held their “Plunder Hunger” food drive on Saturday, which was described as a “great success” and has set the ball rolling for future food drives. Finally, a scheduled protest has been pushed back to July 5th, presently planned to include any Native American contacts.

California – July 20th-26th, the CAPP will be participating in a festival described as “burning man on the water.”

Illinois – Interest has been expressed from Illinois to have a Pirate run on a local village board of trustees. With municipal elections in April 2027, news will be coming fast in regards to this update, with an expectation to be announced by the end of July. The next ILPP meeting will be July 13th, which should be the beginning of a new bi-weekly meeting schedule for Illinois.

Indiana – the INPP met on 6/25 to reconvene and reestablish regular meetings. The next meeting is scheduled for 7/27 at 9:30pmET.

Maryland – Maryland had an in-person meeting with various pirates from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) at a location called “the Dragon’s Den,” where they handed out flyers and which was described “such a success.” The plan is to continue meeting as the same place “until people know we’re the pirates.”

Nevada – Hunter Rand, candidate for Sparks City Council Ward 2, made it within striking distance (less than 40 votes of difference) from the incumbent and making it to a November runoff but just came short.

In a race as close as this one, Hunter forced the incumbent (and frankly, incumbents across the state of Nevada) to learn that they need to drop major $$$ to keep their corrupt jobs instead of coasting. He showed them that people really are starving for something else, and will respond to genuine, grassroots campaigns. We are very proud of you, and proud to call you Pirate.

Pennsylvania – the Drew Bingaman campaign attempted to hold their signature collection event on 6/27, but ran into troubles with the weather. If you are in Pennsylvania and wish to assist with helping the Pirate Party, the absolute best help you can give is helping to get Drew Bingaman on the ballot.

Pirate National Conference – With the 2026 Pirate National Conference in the rear view, discussions have already begun about the 2027 Pirate National Conference. The shortlist for potential frontrunners discussed for host cities include:

  • Baltimore, MD
  • Milwaukee, WI
  • Mobile, AL
  • Sparks, NV
  • Tucson, AZ

None of these locations are final locations, but these were the first of the names discussed. A final decision has been penciled in to be made on Sept. 6th. A form will be posted for people to recommend their host cities. There are presently two (2) bylaws changes on the table for next week’s meeting to discuss the way we hold the conference elections and to set a permanent deadline.

Platform – A “Right to Repair” plank has been added to the United States Pirate Party platform. An easy win for the platform committee, and a setting-in-stone a position already universally agreed upon within the party, adding the plank confirms our commitment to Right to Repair. We believe purchasing IS ownership.

Texas – Texas has been moved to probationary status. This means Texas has to correct the infractions that led them to probationary status, namely failure to send a PNC rep and maintain a proper website, in order to be removed and returned to regular PNC member status. California earlier this year was moved to Probationary status before losing their vote via being dropped to observer member. Texas retains their vote and has not been dropped to observer, but must correct the infractions to prevent a drop to observer member and loss of their vote at the Pirate National Committee.

That’s all the news from last night’s meeting, which you can rewatch here. Next week’s meeting, taking place on 7/5, will be open to all. The link will be posted on our Discord server, which you are also free to join!
