@Elena Rossini ⁂
I can understand that advertising is important for promoting one's own product in a commercial world. However, in the Fediverse, it does not bring people together, but rather divides or excludes them. Therefore, it makes more sense to advertise for this purpose.

hmm, nice, but shouldn't the "Create an account" link go to joinmastodon.org/ rather than mastodon.social/auth/sign_up ?
in reply to Gustavo

@gustavo also came here to comment that, the problem I see is that it is hard to recommend random instances that will disappear overnight, but at least offering a random trusted instance that have been running for years would be nice

I think the actual problem here is the strong dependency in a single instance, mastodon should move in a direction where you can have multi-homing and not have your profile depend on single point of failure

@adbenitez @jmorahan Weren't they working on solving this issue? Like, finding reliable servers?

домен ручками вводить что ли? порнуха какая-то
in reply to Mastodon

very cool! I wish when I typed in a server and press the down arrow it started to highlight options in the list.

thanks so much!

I like the idea but:

It doesn’t support cases where the WEB_DOMAIN and LOCAL_DOMAIN don’t match. I’m used to that from 3rd party tools, but for 1st party tools I’d expect better.

Please add autocomplete="off" to the domain field. Typing in anything other than proper words is a pain on mobile.

Why does ‘Create an account’ lead directly to mastodon.social?!

in reply to Mastodon

hi. How come my posts are completely missing from logged out search of this account?

This started within last half hour or so...

in reply to Mastodon

The link to share joinmastodon org is 404-ing. Because it’s http, not https, perhaps? Also, cool!
in reply to Mastodon

This is only half a solution. Why can't I set my handle in the browser and never have to fill it in anywhere?
in reply to Mastodon

nice, 2 wishes. support for mobile apps would be great and of course alias domain support is also missing. I hope you consider this in a future release.
in reply to Mastodon

woohoo! 🎉🥳 finally! 💙

i look forward to seeing a #Mastodon share button out there. it didn't take long to get a bsky share button on substack

i assume @dansup knows of this. #Loops & #PixelFed may be the first real world tests 😊

so… basically what s2f.kytta.dev/ does for years? 🤔

in reply to Beko Pharm

@bekopharm we know there are some great alternatives, absolutely! Feel free to use the option that works for you.

"There used to be a legitimate reason for this: unlike legacy social, Mastodon isn’t a single monolithic website..."

Email links work on web pages, even though email is decentralized. The reason it works is because email has a protocol handler known as 'mailto:'. Its a simple URL definition that tells any program (esp. operating systems) where to handle a clicked link, such as your email client.

A handler for ActivityPub should have been defined, but that detail was overlooked.

in reply to Mastodon

Great! thank you. I've implemented it on our GroupOffice blog straight away!
in reply to Mastodon

Maybe also give a deeplink like thing which will let me open my account's toot editor with the blog link, that'll make things quicker and will have a standardized approach too for many clients to adopt. Maybe an interim browser extension or an app in mobile to redirect such things in our mastodon account app / webapp.
