RE: ec.social-network.europa.eu/@E…

Oh we have the same wish @EUCommission

I think it'd be a powerful move if you deleted your X account (a platform that has become a vector of misinformation and a cesspool of hate).

By the way, your homepage states: "Follow us on" followed by the icons of Facebook, X and LinkedIn. I always found it odd, since those are algorithm-based U.S. companies and you are the EUROPEAN Commission. How about putting your Mastodon icon on your homepage?

Thank you for your consideration

the problem isn't the nationality, and the root cause of the issues aren't even algorithms, the root cause is surveilance capitalism, the lack of regulation of the advertising sector, the huge size of big tech, the lack/war on interoperability they all wage.

@DiogoConstantino

The Big Tech corporates and their platforms and data centres are the new C21 countries and the new means of production.

Maybe in 50 years time we'll all be going nowhere, physically, while living and working out our surveilled lives in digital factories?

@_elena @EUCommission

in reply to Reg

@ReggieHere they are not.

1st the old means haven't disappeared.

2nd small tech, and Free Software also exist, and they aren't controlled by big tech.

Big Tech is not inevitable if we stand up to it, and if we don't allow ourselves being corrupted by it.

there are very few websites with Mastodon icons. Including #theguardian #commonweal #thenational and government petitions. Wonder why that is..

We have almost 60 #universities in Germany with #Mastodon accounts and the logo on their websites, see the great lists of @scammo
👉 mastodon-listen.playground.54g…
Check the details of that page and you will be directed to nearly 150 research institutes in Germany active an Mastodon, cities and communities etc.. And their numbers of followers are constantly increasing.
Isn't that a great development for the #fediverse?
Please, @EUCommission, come on and join this movement. This would help enormously in demonstrating #Europe 's #digitalsovereignty.

Great work! We’ve just mirrored the project on forgejo.it, within the Fediverse projects space: forgejo.it/Fediverso to give it more visibility and attract more people to contribute and get involved.

Feel free to contact us if you want an account on forgejo.it 😀

@muminitaly one thing we can do is to keep hammering the point with them. As some have already pointed out, we're not asking them to abandon their profiles on those platforms. For now, at least, just add a mastodon link to the list of "follow us" options. Maybe even as the number 1 link.

@leanderlindahl there's probably some intern in charge of the account who is absolutely chuffed at all this 'engagement' you're giving them 🤣

@skribe yes it will happen. When we're right we're right. Nothing was ever achieved by giving up. I'm glad Elena has such a way with words, hitting the right tone. And I'm glad their intern (😂) posted a Christmas greeting indicating the right direction of thought.

I'm a dreamer and I picture the commission taking a quick decision to do this on the 23rd having submitted that test balloon. In the spirit of Christmas. Surely this must have been considered already? Imagine the PR win... Immeasurable...

Excellent point. A lot of institutions around Europe could *at least* have a presence, even if minimal on Mastodon with the icon on their website. Get themselves ready when the stinky ship finally completely sinks.

I mean, what are they waiting for exactly?
What would it take?

@leanderlindahl if it's anything like the organisations and corporates that I've dealt with over the years, then even adding the Mastodon icon would be considered a major decision. Usually above the pay grade of whoever controls the web page.

thank you yourself. I'm also an "into the void screamer". But we'll get there. We know we're right. And anyone taking the time to listen and consider what we're saying will know it too. That something is hard and takes a long time is not a reason not to do it. Slowly slowly the tide is turning.

leaving these "social" networks only to the bad guys would put more people under these misinformation vectors.
I think that public administrations must continiue publishing to the networks in order to have their values available.
This is not the same foer personal accounts of people from these administrations. They should leave these networks, no need to have their words corrupted.

It's the same thing with @thegreenparty@threads.net where they are also @thegreenparty@mastodonapp.uk on Mastodon but have never posted anything. But want to #RejoinEU so should invest in EU platforms like Mastodon.

I don’t know anyone who uses X anymore. It is such a toxic platform, I am not sure why you would want to be associated with it. EU, be bold and move on.

Yes to the icon, replace the algorithm-based social networks with fediverse. Keep the accounts on those and use them to point the users that are there away from those networks.

yeah, very hard to take anybody seriously who features their twitter and assbook accounts. Get off there.

If we want to help them further we can provide feedback and ask for this change at the bottom of their page where it says "give us more feedback". If they get ~1000 comments about removing X and adding Mastodon to the footer, I'm sure it'll help the web team get the greenlight to do it. #LeaveX

@leanderlindahl Did it: "I expect all EU institutions to become independent of US platforms controlled by fascists, which constantly violate European rules. That's why I find it painful when X is still being advertised here under social media! @adamsfan @leanderlindahl done! I wrote

Mastodon is a decentralised social platform (to the point that your profile is hosted on your own servers), with no algorithms, no adverts, and no other issues common in commercial social media. Please replace X with Mastodon, or at least add Mastodon to the list "

@leanderlindahl Fatto!
Ho scritto quanto segue:

@Pare @leanderlindahl in realtà mastodon c'è.
in reply to Sabrina Web 📎
