Two findings from the August 2026 NVIDIA GPU price data.

First: memory capacity rather than performance tier is setting the premium over MSRP. Nothing with 8GB or 12GB lists more than 13% above launch price. Nothing with 16GB or more lists less than 18% above it. The band between is empty — and the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, the cheapest card in the upper group, carries a larger premium than the RTX 5080.

The cleanest evidence comes from the pairs where the same GPU shipped in two memory configurations. On the RTX 5060 Ti, the extra 8GB costs $191 in the market: $23.88 per gigabyte, against $6.25 at launch and roughly $10 for the GDDR7 modules themselves. The RTX 4060 Ti, launched two years earlier, lands at $24.38.

Second: across the RTX 50 line, used cards now list 0–14% below new, three of them at zero. The RTX 40 generation, measured the same day, still lists 11–36% below.

Le HBM sono di fatto esaurite per il 2026 — e la memoria è oggi il principale fattore di costo nell'inferenza AI. La High Bandwidth Flash (HBF) è la scommessa del settore per cambiare le cose.
L'HBF prende la NAND flash — economica e densa — e la ricostruisce con lo stacking e il packaging tipici delle HBM, così da poter stare sul package della GPU e alimentare direttamente l'acceleratore.

Perché funziona: i dati dell'inferenza si dividono in due compiti. I pesi del modello e le cache dei contesti lunghi vengono letti in continuazione ma riscritti raramente — un abbinamento perfetto per la flash, i cui punti deboli (resistenza alla scrittura e latenza) contano poco in quel ruolo. I dati che cambiano a ogni token restano nelle HBM. SK hynix chiama questa divisione H³: HBF e HBM non sono rivali — una contiene i dati che si muovono, l'altra i dati che restano fermi.

I primi risultati sono incoraggianti, ma arrivano da simulazioni dei vendor, non da silicio in produzione. Il modello H³ di SK hynix (HBM + HBF su una Blackwell B200) ha mostrato fino a 2,69x di throughput per watt rispetto a un sistema solo HBM, e 6,14x token al secondo con contesti da 10 milioni di token. Il meccanismo del "più economico" non sono componenti scontati: è più lavoro utile estratto da ogni GPU.
Tempistiche: primi campioni nel secondo semestre 2026, primi sistemi di inferenza in campionatura a inizio 2027.

Nvidia’s latest pricing shift highlights how quickly GPU economics are tightening across the AI hardware stack. A $300 wholesale increase on the RTX 5090, effective May 13, is being absorbed by board partners such as ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte. While the official MSRP remains listed at $1,999, real-world availability tells a different story, with most retail configurations now exceeding $4,000.

This divergence is not incidental. The RTX 5090’s heavy reliance on 32GB of GDDR7 memory has pushed memory costs to more than 80% of the card’s total bill of materials. At the same time, AI data center demand is consuming wafer capacity at scale, tightening supply across the entire memory ecosystem.
