Microsoft ha annunciato che gli aggiornamenti di sicurezza di Windows di agosto 2025 potrebbero causare richieste impreviste di Controllo dell’account utente (UAC) e problemi durante l’installazione delle app. Il bug riguarda gli utenti non amministratori su tutte le versioni supportate di Windows.
Il problema è causato da una patch che risolve una vulnerabilità di escalation dei privilegi in Windows Installer (CVE-2025-50173). Questa vulnerabilità consentiva ad aggressori autenticati di ottenere privilegi a livello di SISTEMA.
Per risolvere il problema, Microsoft ha implementato nuovi prompt di Controllo dell’account utente che richiedono le credenziali di amministratore in varie situazioni per impedire potenziali escalation dei privilegi da parte di aggressori. In alcuni scenari, questi prompt possono verificarsi durante l’esecuzione di comandi di riparazione MSI (come msiexec /fu), nonché durante l’installazione di applicazioni che si configurano automaticamente per singoli utenti ed eseguono Windows Installer durante l’installazione attiva.
Tali modifiche potrebbero inoltre impedire agli utenti di: distribuire pacchetti tramite Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) che dipendono da configurazioni pubblicitarie specifiche dell’utente; abilitare Secure Desktop; eseguire applicazioni Autodesk, tra cui alcune versioni di AutoCAD, Civil 3D e Inventor CAM.
L’elenco completo delle piattaforme interessate è ampio e comprende sia le versioni client che quelle server.

Ad esempio, l’installazione e l’esecuzione di Office Professional Plus 2010 da parte di un utente standard fallirà e verrà visualizzato l’errore 1730 durante il processo di configurazione.”
Microsoft ha affermato di essere già al lavoro su una soluzione per questo problema. Gli amministratori potranno presto consentire ad alcune applicazioni di eseguire operazioni di riparazione MSI senza richiedere l’intervento del Controllo dell’account utente.
Finché non verrà rilasciata una correzione, Microsoft consiglia agli utenti di eseguire le applicazioni che utilizzano Windows Installer (MSI) come amministratore.

While reading I couldn’t help thinking “A lot of this sounds uncomfortably close to the whole ‘LOCALIZERS have RUINED everything’ discourse.” Like.. the article says “It reads like a medieval poem!” like that’s a bad thing, lol.
But I don’t know Chinese to second-guess, and more importantly this NDA stuff suggests such incredibly poor judgment that I can totally believe it spills over into the linguistic realm.
If it's really that (I don't speak Chinese to know), sounds like the same issue we have in Brazil, where soap operas depict "old Portuguese" as a hypercorrected and overly formal version of the language, full of weird syntax and empty flair.
There are many specific things at play there.
First of all, English is (was?) allowed to depart from the source in the first place because of its market relevance. JP companies go through that extra pain in the hope of a big overseas hit, which is unlikely in other languages.
Then there's the lower familiarity US audiences have (had) with translations in general, which pushed for heavier adaptation, often from people with more of a writing than a TL background.
On top of that, there's the US political discourse, where a common talking point of the right is manipulation and indoctrination through media. And since games sometimes get tweaked to avoid controversy, localization became and easy (and cheap) target for "woke agenda" fearmongering.
All this doesn't mean games don't get heavily adapted in other languages. That0s just a tool! It's just less common and it's only brought up when it goes wrong (like in this case)
Maybe I should've been more specific about what kind of discourse I was referring to.
In general, 90% of localization discussions online boil down to "I know more than one language, and I'm really smart". 😄
So in the best case scenario, it's about obsessing over one single line and how better they would have translated it - with the benefit of playing the whole game for months and no deadline, of course.
Nobody goes online to say "Yeah, that was a good job, professionally made considering the pressure they surely were under" 😆
The most comical for me is the website of a volunteer translation group making fun of the professional translation they "remade".
And all their examples are lines where the translation is entirely different from the source, because devs clearly misplaced it/changed it after the fact 😄
