Sovranità popolare significa poter incidere senza intermediazioni su temi rilevanti attraverso i referendum. Gli inviti a non votare sviliscono la democrazia diretta.
Inoltre, il popolo può dirsi costituzionalmente “sovrano” in quanto sia pienamente informato, quindi consapevole. Chiedere di non votare per fede politica, cioè non in base a motivazioni argomentate, contrasta col "conoscere per deliberare".
