Head to Print Head: CNC vs FDM
It’s a question new makers often ask: “Should I start with a CNC machine or a 3D Printer?”– or, once you have both, every project gets the question “Should I use my CNC or 3D printer?” — and the answer is to both is, of course, “it depends”. In the video embedded below by [NeedItMakeIt] you can see a head-to-head comparison for one specific product he makes, CRATER, a magnetic, click-together stacking tray for tabletop gaming. (He says tabletop gaming, but we think these would be very handy in the shop, too.)
[NeedItMakeIt] takes us through the process for both FDM 3D Printing in PLA, and CNC Machining the same part in walnut. Which part is nicer is absolutely a matter of taste; we can’t imagine many wouldn’t chose the wood, but de gustibus non disputandum est–there is no accounting for taste. What there is accounting for is the materials and energy costs, which are both surprising– that walnut is cheaper than PLA for this part is actually shocking, but the amount of power needed for dust collection is something that caught us off guard, too.
Of course the process is the real key, and given that most of the video follows [NeedItMakeIt] crafting the CNC’d version of his invention, the video gives a good rundown to any newbie just how much more work is involved in getting a machined part ready for sale compared to “take it off the printer and glue in the magnets.” (It’s about 40 extra minutes, if you want to skip to the answer.) As you might expect, labour is by far the greatest cost in producing these items if you value your time, which [NeedItMakeIt] does in the spreadsheet he presents at the end.
What he does not do is provide an answer, because in the case of this part, neither CNC or 3D Printing is “better”. It’s a matter of taste– which is the great thing about DIY. We can decide for ourselves which process and which end product we prefer. “There is no accounting for taste”, de gustibus non disputandum est, is true enough that it’s been repeated since Latin was a thing. Which would you rather, in this case? CNC or 3D print? Perhaps you would rather 3D Print a CNC? Or have one machine to do it all? Let us know in the comments for that sweet, sweet engagement.

In #Israele ci sono già molti politici pazzi che rappresentano un rischio per l'intera regione.
Sarebbe legittimo affidare loro i codice atomici? Sarebbe legittimo assassinarli?
Queste domande sono estremamente scottanti; Israele evita di discuterle e falsifica le risposte, adducendo l'argomento sacro: “Come si può fare un paragone?”.

Non sono molti gli israeliani che pensano che questo abbia dato ad Amir la licenza di uccidere il primo ministro.
Ora Israele pensa che Khamenei sia una minaccia esistenziale, e quindi è autorizzato ad ucciderlo: “Omicidio” è la parola giusta, la più precisa.
Se mettiamo da parte l'assunto che Israele ha inventato per sé, secondo il quale gli è permesso fare ciò che è vietato al resto del mondo, è molto difficile affrontare queste domande.
Affermare che Israele è un caso speciale, perché a noi tutto è permesso, perché siamo sopravvissuti all'Olocausto e al massacro del 7 ottobre, non regge. Anche il mondo comincia a stancarsi.
La risposta deve essere universale. ⬇️4

È chiaro che Hitler doveva essere eliminato, ma Khamenei non è Hitler.
Israele afferma di astenersi dal fare del male ai civili.
Khamenei è un civile, non il capo di stato maggiore o un generale. Possiamo anche accantonare momentaneamente la questione della legittimità e chiederci se sia saggio ucciderlo.
La guerra in Iran sta per complicarsi.
Yaniv Kubovich ha riferito che i funzionari militari israeliani stanno improvvisamente dicendo che Israele non può essere soggetto ad un arco temporale prestabilito.
È così che si comincia a sprofondare nella palude.
Assassinare Khamenei non farebbe che peggiorare le cose. ⬇️5

in reply to MAU • • •Le teste parlanti negli studi dei notiziari israeliani parlano di “caccia agli scienziati” in Iran, forse un'allusione alla caccia del #Mossad agli scienziati tedeschi in Egitto negli anni Sessanta.
La terminologia è importante, ed è ignobile come l'alito del ministro della Difesa.
Non si “cacciano” gli scienziati, perché non sono animali (la cui caccia è anch'essa orribile), anche se sono iraniani.
Gli appelli all'assassinio di capi di Stato non sono legittimi da qualsiasi parte arrivino.
Il nostro Netanyahu è ora responsabile dell'uccisione di decine di migliaia di persone a #Gaza.
È lecito chiedere il suo assassinio per salvare i resti della nazione? ⬇️7

in reply to MAU • • •Molti israeliani pensano anche che sia un tiranno, che stia distruggendo il Paese e rovinando la democrazia israeliana, che sia l'ebreo più spregevole della storia e una miriade di altri insulti - eppure nessuno, si spera, immagina di discutere del suo assassinio.
La discussione sull'eliminazione di Khamenei apre le porte alla legittimità: d'ora in poi è lecito assassinare i capi di Stato.
L'unica cosa ancora da discutere è chi sia un obiettivo legittimo e chi no.
Gli israeliani non lo sono.⟧
