"Noisy: A Young Woman of the Kansei Period with a Purring Cat," Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, 1888.
Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) was the last great master of the ukiyo-e woodblock print, and an innovator of the style, at a time when Japan's culture was rapidly modernizing and leaving traditional arts and styles behind.
He was coming off a period of severe depression after his fame for producing bloody prints of violence faded...he was reflecting the violence in Japanese culture at the time. However, he found a career resurrection in producing images of actors in various dramas, and the eternal ukiyo-e subject, beautiful women.
The identity of this woman is unknown; although she's shown in the dress and style of the Kansei period (1789-1801), it's likely that the subject was a geisha or courtesan. Her snuggling of the cat is an unconventional pose, but charming. The cat even has the requisite bell on its collar.
Sadly, Yoshitoshi's physical and mental health began to deteriorate. He was hospitalized for a while, but was released and died of a cerebral hemorrhage at 53.

Sunrise from the shores of Laguna Azul, with the iconic spires of Torres del Paine glowing red in the first light of day. We were lucky to have clear skies on our first morning, offering an unobstructed view of the towers.
Technically just outside the borders of Torres del Paine National Park, the nearby campsite at Laguna Azul still provides stunning views of the Paine Massif. It’s also a quieter alternative to the more crowded campsites inside the park, especially later in the season, and serves as a starting point for several trails around the lagoon.

During those 5 years, the U.S. government invested over twice as much money in five weapons companies as in diplomacy and international assistance. $771 billion went to just 5 firms: Lockheed Martin ($313 billion), RTX (formerly Raytheon, $145 billion), Boeing ($115 billion), General Dynamics ($116 billion), and Northrop Grumman ($81 billion). The total diplomacy, development, and humanitarian aid budget, excluding military aid, was $356 billion.

Their statement on the action reads:
Hi, we are maia arson crimew and freya. If you are seeing this video, we have most likely been arrested protesting the UN AI for Good summit in Geneva, the birthplace of the Geneva Conventions.With this event hosted by Switzerland and the UN, Big Tech and AI companies — such as Google, Amazon, Palantir and Microsoft — are invited to whitewash their complicity in the AI-powered genocide in Palestine.
While the US and Europe provide the financial backing, Big Tech infrastructure actively enables the surveillance, the targeting and strategic erasure of the Palestinian people. This would not be possible without their assistance.
With this hypocritical event, the UN not only contradicts its own reports, but actively enables violations of international law. Just half a year ago, Switzerland was appointed by the UN to host a conference to uphold the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilians in the occupied Palestinian territory. Because of so-called "stakeholder disagreements", the event was cancelled. By now hosting and platforming parties that are complicit in the Palestinian genocide, Switzerland is actively positioning itself contradicting its neutrality position.
We will not be silent in a genocide. You cannot be neutral in a genocide.
I hope their bravery will inspire more people to disrupt these events and make things miserable for the mush-minded morons participating.
