Road Trip to the End of the World just hit Steam—and it’s got my attention.
I don’t usually like visual novels, but this one looks too spicy to ignore.
The pitch: Andy teams up with her imaginary fish friend, Fishy, and sets off on a reckless cross-country road trip. The goal? Crash her ex-best friend’s wedding—a wedding she wasn’t even invited to. That’s already dripping with drama, but the developer, Alex Lee of Shark and Pelican Games, describes it as a story about the death of a friendship. So don’t expect any neat bows or tidy resolutions here. This trip is going to sting.
Instead of playing it safe, the game leans into awkward diner food, bad gas station snacks, long stretches of road, and the heavy weight of what happens when people drift apart. And Fishy, dressed in overalls and big-eyed sincerity, adds a surreal layer to the whole thing—equal parts comic relief and emotional gut-check.
It’s not a long ride—1–2 hours tops—but that’s exactly what makes it tempting. Short, sharp, and unapologetic. There’s point-and-click flavor sprinkled in, a full original soundtrack, and even a surprise cameo tossed in for good measure. The Steam tagline nails it: closure sold separately.
On the practical side, it runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux natively. No Proton headaches. And the kicker? It’s free.
I may not be a visual novel guy—but this one feels like the exception. It’s giving me the sense of a midnight drive where you know you shouldn’t go, but can’t help stepping on the gas anyway.

Forgejo users are living off hype just like people accuse Elon/Tesla fanboys. They've made huge promises and can't deliver. It's been almost 3 years since the initial fork and there's nothing to show for it really, and the dev (ghost) started a couple years before that with Gitea PRs. (there are a few ActivityPub things already merged into Gitea, but disabled by default)
It's more about license evangelism at this point and wanting more control.

Same mindset that TDF had with LibreOffice and that probably didn't end up the way they wanted either.
As for Forgejo bug fixes that weren't backported from Gitea for a long time. I, like many people, migrated to Forgejo few months after the whole trust issue situation and was mostly happy for some time. My instance is mostly mirrors anyway. Then around version 8.0 there was a bug in Gitea where mirrored repositories with LFS files would balloon in size for no reason. The fix took I think few months to arrive in Gitea, but for some reason Forgejo developers didn't backport it to all supported versions at that time. It was only in the newest release. I think I was running version 10.0 at that time since that was the first version after the hard fork iirc. At least migrating back to Gitea was relatively easy since there weren't many DB migrations added yet at that time.
I think there were also some LDAP bug fixes that didn't get merged into Forgejo for a long time.

La zia Rina (Vittoria, Vittorina, classe 1904, sorella di mia nonna) era una maestra elementare.
Ha fatto le magistrali e a 19 anni è andata a insegnare, via dalla famiglia, nei paesi.
Per lei essere maestra era una missione: la missione di insegnare.
Ha insegnato tutta la vita a schiere di alunni che altrimenti non avrebbero mai saputo leggere e scrivere, non avrebbero conosciuto un mondo oltre i confini del loro paese.
Ha dato a decine e decine di persone la possibilità di leggere, comprendere, sognare cose che altrimenti non avrebbero sognato.
Mi ha cresciuto, mi voleva bene e mi ha trasmesso un grande amore per il sapere.
Era profondamente cattolica, una volta, da adolescente, ci ho litigato e le ho urlato che io ero ateə anticlericale e comunista.
Era vero, ma dopo tanti anni mi dispiace ancora averle urlato e aver voluto ferirla.
Se potessi parlarle adesso le direi che tante delle cose migliori di me le devo a lei e che le voglio bene.

Blog teaser - season #2 - 2025
Dal punto di vista della produttività, il 2025 può essere definito un anno "benedetto" per questo blog. Da gennaio alla fine di luglio sono riuscito a pubblicare con regolarità almeno un contenuto a settimana.
La striscia si è interrotta nel mese di agosto, durante il quale mi sono preso una pausa dalla scrittura per godermi qualche settimana di ferie.
Nel salutare te e gli altri lettori mi ero chiesto se e quando sarei riuscito a riprendere le pubblicazioni ma, soprattutto, se sarei riuscito a tenere la stessa regolarità anche durante la seconda parte dell'anno.
Così, al rientro dalle ferie, ho iniziato a lavorare alla nuova stagione del blog che, al momento, conta già tre post scritti, caricati e programmati e almeno altri due sono in fase di progettazione.
Questo significa che nelle prossime settimane potrò contare su un buffer tale da farmi ben sperare di poter tornare a pubblicare con regolarità un post a settimana.
Come accaduto nel resto dell'anno, i post usciranno ogni domenica sera (a proposito, che ne pensi di questa modalità di uscita? È comoda o fa schifo, fammelo sapere nei commenti) e verranno condivisi sui social nei giorni successivi.

Come detto sopra, tre sono i post già pronti che usciranno nelle prossime settimane.
Due hanno a che fare con il workshop di worldbuilding che ho tenuto a Scicli all'inizio di agosto: uno è un reportage molto personale dei tre giorni passati in Sicilia, l'altro la trascrizione della performative lecture che ho tenuto il giorno prima del workshop.
Quest'ultima riprende, chiarisce e approfondisce le note che avevo pubblicato qualche mese fa. Vista la risposta incoraggiante che sta avendo il format a cui ho lavorato nell'ultimo anno ho deciso di approfondire i temi legati al worldbuilding, quindi aspettati altri contenuti su questo tema.
Il terzo post in scaletta è il quinto episodio di La turbolenza, il diario di lavorazione di un libro sulla politica altoatesina che forse non uscirà mai. È dedicato a uno dei temi che più ha tenuto banco nelle cronache locali durante l'estate: l'overtourism.
Idee ancora da sviluppare
Tra queste ci sono almeno due recensioni: quella di Tecnopolitica, il saggio di Asma Mhalla dedicato alla militarizzazione delle tecnologie digitali e quella di Warfare, il film diretto da Ray Mendoza e Alex Garland.
Inoltre è da qualche tempo che sto pensando a un saggio dedicato al rapporto tra immagini e realtà al tempo delle intelligenze artificiali generative.
Mi piacerebbe scriverlo, ma ho qualche remora perché per farlo potrei dover tirare in balle le immagini provenienti da Gaza e ho qualche remora a mettere un genocidio in mezzo a un pezzo di theory (anche in questo caso, se ti va di dirmi la tua nei commenti mi fa piacere).

I currently experiment with creating some terrains in blender, mostly to be used as brushes for sculpting later.
While I am using the ant landscape plugin, that also comes with a erosion tool, I still found this a bit limited.
So I started with a modular geonode setup, allowing to customize the terrains quite a lot.
The first 2 images show some examples, with uneroded, eroded and 2 custom variants.
