Iโm a Digg groundbreaker, just because I wanted to see what the hubbub was about.
Itโs definitely not a Reddit rip off, in fact Lemmy is closer to a โReddit ripoffโ than dig.
That said it is definitely being auto moderated by AI and theyโre absolutely using AI all over the place but saying itโs โhuman at the core and tech at the edgesโ
If youโre on Digg itโs possible to be in regular contact with the devs and they kind of dance around how much AI agents are being used.
That said the AI tldr is actually really cool only because of how horribly it butchers some articles and you get to read wild stuff like JD Vance shooting Trump in the face for peeing the bed because the AI read the ads also.

All of us can remember at least some part of ourselves from when we were younger. Within most of us there exists a child with ideals for a good world, untainted by our politics' need for violence and its justifications carried through every layer of society, from education to the media.
Over the years that child is killed, bombarded with misinformation, shot with exaggeration, buried in fear about why certain groups of people who could be their friends or neighbours, are actually rapists, criminals, or subhumans. A new person is born and raised with ignorance disguised as critical thinking, where once was a conscience now lives a drastic need to justify everything happening around them. The nagging voice of youthful innocence growing quieter, with every tragedy not questioned and excuse believed, everything must be going okay, why else would everyone be following? After all, am I willing to lose my friends and possibly my job to stand up for what I believe in?
In Germany there exists an insult, โGutmenschโ (or โGood Personโ in English) which is rather strange if you think about it. How is it an insult to call someone good? It's rather a self-exposing groupthink term for making fun of the people who haven't yet given up trying to make the world better. After all, who doesn't believe they themselves are doing what is good? Why do you think it's easy to ask for a better world, but some things just require the hard choices to be made with uneasy solutions? Why does the implementation of your beliefs require the militarization of your speech?
When the last immigrant is deported, and what we were told to be justice is finally achieved, but rising cost of living, joblessness, poverty, and crime still persist: Who will be left to blame but ourselves, for having killed a child that was right?

Is there a plausible way they actually ban the use of VPNs? Like, they can make it illegal on paper, but even in China, which has long had strict restrictions on internet use, I've heard that VPN use is widespread.
It just all seems like performative whack-a-mole to me. The only people who can control what a kid sees online are their parents or guardians. A child is not buying themselves a laptop or an iPad.
I know that this is all just theater to just destroy any semblance of free speech and privacy on the internet but if I'm completely honest I also don't even understand people who freak out about kids looking at porn. Like, I get protecting children obviously from predators (fucking Roblox), but also I saw hardcore porn on the internet super early when I was like 8 and the only trauma I ever felt was the fear of being caught looking at it by my parents, who were otherwise pretty chill about me seeing really violent media.
And before me and the internet, kids were looking at their grampa's/dad's porn magazines or finding it in the woods or getting some 18 year old to buy it for them. It was harder but I'm telling you they found it.
I feel like a bigger concern for kids right now is microplastics, lead poisoning, and climate change and you don't see nearly the same hysteria about that shit in mainstream politics.
I want it to load as fast as possible but I'm also tempted to use some very old pics/gifs for shit and giggles.

The port canโt get power to electrify ships while they are in port. The data centers are literally in the port and have consumed or reserved it all.
Ships that dock canโt shut down their engines at that port so they are likely to dock elsewhere.
