..."In his newsletter today, retired entrepreneur Bill Southworth tallied the times #Trump has grabbed #headlines to distract people from larger stories, starting the tally with how Trump’s posts about Peanut the Squirrel the day before the election swept like a brushfire across the right-wing #media ecosystem and then into the mainstream. In early 2025, Southworth notes, as the media began to dig into the dramatic restructuring of the federal government, Trump posted outrageously about Gaza, and that story took over. When cuts to PEPFAR (the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) and the U.S. Agency for International Development threatened lives across Africa, Trump turned the conversation to white South Africans he lied were fleeing “anti-white genocide.”
Southworth calls this “narrative warfare,” and while it is true that Republican leaders have seeded a particular false narrative for decades now, this technique is also known as “political technology” or “virtual politics.” This system, pioneered in Russia under Russian president Vladimir Putin, is designed to get people to vote an authoritarian into office by creating a fake world of outrage. For those who do not buy the lies, there is another tool: flooding the zone so that people stop being able to figure out what is real and tune out.

@PepikHipik Je zajímavé, jak si autor myslí, že František byl nějaký progresivista, a nevím, proč uvažuje, že nyní nedojde k posunu ke svěcení žen a zlepšení postojů vůči LGBT lidem. František byl v tomto ohledu spíše nečitelný, než že by to někam posouval. Posouvali to ti, kteří naskakovali na jeho mediální výroky (a já byl mezi nimi). Ano, byl vydán jeden dokument Dikasteria pro nauku víry z roku 2023 trapně přešlapující kolem povolení žehnání lgbt párům, ale taky je tam jedno responsum Kongregace pro nauku víry z roku 2021, že to církev dělat nemůže, Je tam dokument z roku 2019 ostře se vymezující proti genderovým teoriím... V roce 2021 přidal František do kanonického práva nový zločin stižený exkomunikací "pokus o vysvěcení ženy na kněze".
Co se týče odporu k "genderové ideologii" a ke "klerikalizaci žen", jsou si oba papežové rovni. Leon není faktický krok zpátky, je to jen klauskovsky řečeno nevítězství a nepokrok. A je to studený naučený právnický a klerikální úsměv právníka Leona namísto hřejivé a autentické lidské opravdovosti Františka, ale oba jsou to v jádru zcela konzervativní pánové.
Hltal jsem Františka od první chvíle kvůli jeho buona sera a kvůli označení papežství za římský episkopát, obojí v pozdravu po zvolení. Nečekal jsem od něho nic menšího než zrušení papežství a všeho. Nedočkal jsem se skoro ničeho, kromě etablování termínu "klerikalismus" jako označení patologie církevních struktur, za což jsem vděčný, protože před Františkem to bylo chápáno jako nadávka agnostiků a ateistů. Tady u Leona nečekám nic a taky se zřejmě ničeho nedočkám. Rozdíl je jen kosmetický.
Ale jedna z mně blízkých osob je uklidněná, protože Leno si vzal ke zdravici na balkon u sv. Petra vyšívanou rochetu a štolu, a je spokojená, že je svět zase v pořádku a že Leon bude lepší než "ten chlápek" před ním, který se neuměl ani obléct. Pro církev je Leon požehnáním. Jen já tam prostě nepatřím.

This report about #Wacom graphics tablets is disturbing for a couple of reasons.
1. They are surveilling users of their #tablet - a human-interface device analogous to a mouse or trackball - recording every application you open, or when you switch between windows of different applications. They are collecting this data via a trip through Google Analytics, aka Spyware Central. There is no possible way to justify collection of this particular data; it is none of their damn business how long you have your drawing program focused before switching to your browser and back again. The author notes their privacy policy really doesn't describe this collection of data correctly, so there really can't be informed consent in the first place.
2. Why on earth is it possible in #Apple #OSX / #MacOS for a USB human interface device driver to capture this information in the first place? Apple shares a big slice of the blame here - this should just simply not be possible for the driver to collect in the first place. Having such a driver allowed to place outgoing HTTP requests is also a big "WTF are they thinking?" moment.

@debacle Btw., I use macOS and am super grateful for these open source drivers; I use one of those as well. I mean, I have to, because Wacom have stopped supporting the tablet I have so long ago, their software doesn't work at all on a vaguely recent OS 🙁
