The image shows a group of people participating in a protest. In the foreground, a woman wearing a blue jacket and a striped shirt is holding a sign that reads "DOE EENS MEDEMENSELIJK." Next to her, another woman in a yellow jacket is holding a sign that says "BLAUWWINGEN TEGEN HAATZAAYER." The background includes other protesters, some holding signs, and a cloudy sky. The setting appears to be outdoors, possibly in front of a building, with trees visible in the background. The image is accompanied by a tweet from Nynke de Jong, expressing a contrast in media coverage between the protesters and the opponents of the AZC in Zwolle.

The Israeli occupation state is not content with using deadly and internationally banned weapons to carry out massacres in Gaza—among the most horrific crimes in modern times—but also continues to employ its media platforms for incitement and racist rhetoric against the Palestinian people.

A recent monitoring report by WAFA highlighted prominent examples of such incitement in Israeli media over the past week.

Germany is becoming more and more fucked up day by day:

German nazi concentration camp memorial have released a brochure labeling every Palestinian symbol as antisemitic.

Including calls for a ceasefire, which is Germany’s official position.

And calling Israel an apartheid state, which the ICJ ruled in July 2024.

The image features a person with their hands raised, showing both middle fingers, against a plain background with a ceiling visible. The person is wearing a white shirt with a graphic design. At the top of the image, there is text in bold, black font that reads: "ANDROID: FILE SAVED SUCCESSFULLY ME: WHERE IS IT SAVED? ANDROID:"

The text humorously depicts a common frustration with Android devices, where a file is saved successfully but the user is unsure of its location. The person's gesture adds a comedic element to the situation.

Managing Temperatures for Ultrafast Benchy Printing

A blue 3DBenchy is visible on a small circular plate extending up through a cutout in a flat, reflective surface. Above the Benchy is a roughly triangular metal 3D printer extruder, with a frost-covered ring around the nozzle. A label below the Benchy reads “2 MIN 03 SEC.”

Commercial 3D printers keep getting faster and faster, but we can confidently say that none of them is nearly as fast as [Jan]’s Minuteman printer, so named for its goal of eventually printing a 3DBenchy in less than a minute. The Minuteman uses an air bearing as its print bed, feeds four streams of filament into one printhead for faster extrusion, and in [Jan]’s latest video, printed a Benchy in just over two minutes at much higher quality than previous two-minute Benchies.

[Jan] found that the biggest speed bottleneck was in cooling a layer quickly enough that it would solidify before the printer laid down the next layer. He was able to get his layer speed down to about 0.6-0.4 seconds per layer, but had trouble going beyond that. He was able to improve the quality of his prints, however, by varying the nozzle temperature throughout the print. For this he used [Salim BELAYEL]’s postprocessing script, which increases hotend temperature when volumetric flow rate is high, and decreases it when flow rate is low. This keeps the plastic coming out of the nozzle at an approximately constant temperature. With this, [Jan] could print quite good sub-four and sub-thee minute Benchies, with almost no print degradation from the five-minute version. [Jan] predicts that this will become a standard feature of slicers, and we have to agree that this could help even less speed-obsessed printers.

Now onto less generally-applicable optimizations: [Jan] still needed stronger cooling to get faster prints, so he designed a circular duct that directed a plane of compressed air horizontally toward the nozzle, in the manner of an air knife. This wasn’t quite enough, so he precooled his compressed air with dry ice. This made it both colder and denser, both of which made it a better coolant. The thermal gradient this produced in the print bed seemed to cause it to warp, making bed adhesion inconsistent. However, it did increase build quality, and [Jan]’s confident that he’s made the best two-minute Benchy yet.

If you’re curious about Minuteman’s motion system, we’ve previously looked at how that was built. Of course, it’s also possible to speed up prints by simply adding more extruders.

"The dumbest move in tech right now: laying off developers because of AI."

"Let's be real about the state of software today. Most products are, at best, 'good enough' -- unintuitive, buggy, and frustrating to use. Whether it's consumer apps, enterprise software, or, even worse, developer tools, the experience is far from perfect despite all the claims about user-centric design, delightful experiences, empathy for the user, blah blah."

"As a product manager, I've lived with the same painful reality for years: engineering is always the critical bottleneck. That new feature your users keep asking for -- the one you know would drive revenue? Still marked as 'coming soon.' That brilliant UX improvement that could increase adoption or engagement? 'Definitely next quarter... probably.' That bug driving your users crazy? 'We'll triage it right after this sprint -- promise.'"

"This isn't a criticism of developers -- quite the opposite. It's simple math: there are roughly 29 million software developers worldwide serving over 5.4 billion internet users. That's one developer for every 186 users, each with unique requirements and preferences, all increasingly dependent on software for every aspect of their lives."

"Now, with AI-assisted coding, we have an unprecedented opportunity to invest more (artificial) resources to dramatically improve software quality and user experience. Yet headlines are filled with executives viewing these emerging AI capabilities primarily as cost-cutting measures -- a chance to achieve current output with fewer developers. This mindset fundamentally misunderstands AI's true potential, which isn't to maintain the status quo (of low quality products), but to amplify output by an order of magnitude."

Unfortunately, this is written with the belief that "AI transforms each developer into a 10x developer." Maybe it will some day. But right now, AI 10xs some tasks, and whether a developer can go 10x faster depends on what tasks their job consists of. What's clear, though, is that most non-programmers (managers, the public, etc) believe AI tools 10x developer productivity (or at least 5x it), and pretty much all developers now are "AI tools" developers trying to 10x their productivity with AI. It seems like over the last year, resistance to AI tools vanished and at this point, all developers are on board. That's how it seems subjectively -- will be interesting to see an actual poll and see how close we are to 100%.

in reply to Wayne Radinsky

Having an Nvdia box running deepseek AI on it I have spent some time playing with AI and although I do like it and I do think that it will have more to do in the future I do not see it being a threat to anyone's job. It is unbelievably stupid and cannot do anything on its own and cannot think for itself in any way. You cannot simply ask it to write a programme, you need to give it a lot of specifications in order for it to do what you want. It will return a load of rubbish and you will need to rethink the specifications and try again, and again, and again.

AI cannot produce anything new, it is just faster at searching for things to copy. So you can only get things that have been done before and you may get sued for copying someone else's work. All LLMs need to work to a limitted probabilty of being correct whereas most people expect computers to be correct. The more we hand over writing software to AI the more people will get disalusioned with computers. Is that a bad thing?

in reply to Wayne Radinsky

I think that programming has changed. All my friends ask AI to do the job and then correct the results like marking a child's homework. As I said, AI has a role in our future but initially people are going to get extremely disolusioned but the absurd marketting. It is not intelligent, it is faster. The luddites step in and smash the machines because of the perceived threat that is not really there. Did computers take people's jobs or create jobs? (or just give us games to play) It does not do what it says on the box but it is a great step forward. To put it more simply AI chips are parallel processors like those that came out in the 1990s as math co-processors. It is a step forward but the marketting people got involved and wanted to make it sound as if it was a revolution. I have taught my Xavier that he is called HAL and that I am called Dave. I now need to teach him to sing "Daisy, Daisy" in a progressively slowing manner when told to shutdown.

The image depicts a vast, open field with dry, golden grass under a cloudy sky. In the foreground, a young girl stands on a dirt path, facing a large, hovering object in the sky. The object is a disc-shaped craft, reminiscent of a flying saucer, with a smooth, metallic surface and a faint glow. The girl is wearing a blue dress and has long hair, standing alone in the expansive landscape. The scene is dimly lit, with the light source coming from the right, casting shadows and creating a moody atmosphere. The background features a hazy horizon with distant hills, adding depth to the scene. The overall composition emphasizes the contrast between the small figure of the girl and the massive, mysterious object above.
