Over the past few days I've re-watched the series "The Night Manager" ( UK 2016) starring Olivia Colman, Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston and currently streaming on #AmazonPrime. Somewhere halfway through there is a scene of a disturbance at a fancy foreign restaurant. But one of the players at the table was none other than the author of that tale, the late John LeCarre. Made me so happy to see the scene between Tom and John. 📺 #Series

Honestly, angrysock/friendlysock was a big part of why I pulled back from lobste.rs a decade ago. Relieved to see the mods finally issued an outright ban; this is not the first time they've walked right up to the line and pissed over it.

Kinda glad we both forgot about it because every time I wander in there there’s some obvious meta rumble going down in the comments and it’s not much better (still better) than the orange VC fan club or the Green site that has long since devolved into a cesspool of obscurity.

Åland Pride 2025! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🇦🇽

This week is pride week on Åland Islands and today we had a parade through the town, from the Western Harbour to the Marketplace, with about 500 participants. It's a really nice gathering, warm and cozy, surely very different from big cities (I've never participated pride parade anywhere else). Tomorrow we will have a rainbow mass in the church.

I just wish that everyone, everywhere, would have the possibility to be who they are, love who they want, dress as they like, and walk on the streets of their hometown waving rainbow flags, carefree and safe. 🌈

Comunque ho risolto il problema delle password. Boom, definitivo. Niente gestori di password, niente foglietti sparsi per casa, niente file (sicurissimi 🤣) dai nomi improbabili... Tutto dint'a capa!
E potete risolverlo anche voi. Sul serio. Ora vi dico come.
Scritto in numero, in lettere, o in quale lingua? Qualche carattere extra, deciso in base a...?

Piracy Is the number two community on Lemmy?

Does anyone else find it Odd that the number two community for Lemmy is piracy? It's not exactly a good image is it.... 😏

I mean here we are all privacy advocates fighting for the honest man's right to be private on the internet...and yet it kind of seems to validate the idea that the only people who want privacy have something scandalous to engage in 🥴

Anyone have anything to say for themselves? Or would it be true to say that the only people who want privacy online want to engage in things like pornography or stealing?

in reply to WaffleWarrior

Don't like piracy? Then don't participate, your argument doesn't make since you can pirate in certain countries without privacy, it's like saying you shouldn't have a knife in your house because you can murder with it and a cutlery store is odd and paints a bad image because it sells knifes and forks and that can be used for murder piracy and privacy are not mutually exclusive they are just similar because one fights for information freedom and one fights for not being tracked by big adtech, you sound like the chat control supporters (FROM ONWARDS IS MY OPINION) piracy is not stealing you are not stealing any physical the company is not losing any money that they have made they just lose money that they should have made and that is just a metric that does not matter it is the same as if you didn't even buy the game, but you just can play the game the important part is nobody is losing anything.

What does Lemmy (an open community) have to do with privacy?

Your art is not *lesser* if you chose to make it just because you thought it would be cool, or interesting, or just pretty.

Making art to challenge people or make a social or political point is of course still valid. I want to be very clear that it’s absolutely ok for art to be weird and political and uncomfortable.

All I’m saying it is don’t let people convince you that other motivations for creating are are any less valid.

yes and I believe that a person doing things for pleasure — because they thought it would be cool, interesting, or pretty — is weird and political and uncomfortable today. Re-centering human motivations is the core of the revolution I hope for. Escaping fanatical focus on effectuating/influencing/monetizing/productivity & embracing being/feeling/caring/sustaining is a transformation that I try to embrace.

I'm fascinated to (re-?)discover that the core #ActivityPub deliverable was the C2S API, not the S3S federation protocol.

Was the underlying assumption that servers were boring, one/few implementations could handle all cases, and innovation was going to be centered around clients?

in reply to Johannes Ernst

One major influence was the IndieWeb POSSE approach (indieweb.org/POSSE), which was about the website as a client to multiple services. Standardizing a client-to-server social connection would benefit that.
in reply to Robert W. Gehl

@rwg I hung out with the IndieWeb folks for many years, still do from time to time, that's where I met @snarfed.org eons ago I believe!
in reply to Johannes Ernst

The core deliverable was both, as a package, of Client-to-Server and Server-to-Server! In the first draft of ActivityPub, and its predecessor in the pump.io API docs, there wasn't any separation at all about how to implement one without the other.

It was @rhiaro who separated the C2S API from the S2S api, partly inspired by webmention and micropub being two different APIs. (At the time we thought ActivityPub might merge with the Indieweb stuff; that didn't happen.)
