Former MP George Galloway was detained by counter-terrorism police at Gatwick airport on Saturday, after reportedly returning from Russia.
Officers from the Met’s Terrorism Command intercepted the 71-year-old politician and his wife, Putri Gayatri Pertiwi, 40, before releasing them shortly after.
The pair were returning to the UK from Moscow via Abu Dhabi, according to reports.
Galloway’s Workers Party of Britain, which Pertiwi is deputy chair of, claimed the detention was ‘politically motivated intimidation’.

The Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act allows police to stop, question, search and detain people at ports and borders to determine if they have engaged in ‘hostile activity’.
In May, Mr Galloway travelled to Moscow to attend Russia’s Victory Parade. Days earlier, he had been in Iran to receive an award.
That award was named in honour of Ismail Haniyeh, the former political leader of Hamas, who was killed by Israel in July 2024.
According to The Herald, he had arrived into Gatwick from Moscow via Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Galloway was formerly a Labour MP, but was from the party after falling out with then-PM Tony Blair over the Iraq war (Getty Images) Galloway first entered Parliament in 1987, winning the Glasgow Hillhead seat for Labour.
He was expelled from the party in 2003 after a clash with then-prime minister Tony Blair over the UK’s role in the Iraq war.
Galloway later sat as an independent before joining the Respect Party, which campaigned against the conflict.
His most recent return to Parliament was in 2024 after winning the Rochdale by-election, which then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called ‘beyond alarming’. Galloway lost the seat later that year in the General Election.
While sitting as an MP in 2006, he also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and was widely mocked over footage in which he pretended to be a cat.
The Met was approached for comment.
A spokesperson previously told the Herald Scotland: ‘We can confirm that on Saturday, 27 September counter terrorism officers at Gatwick Airport stopped a man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s under Schedule 3 of the Counter Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019.

Andrea Botero and I contributed to chapter 3 on what we learn from designers working with people actively engaged in design, through design-in-use, as well as learning from people designing for themselves, such as open design makers and hackers.

So, I hear about this "medbed" thing and search youTube to find some kind of overview about the scam but none of the results do that. They are just advertisements for medbeds or people who think they are real.
shit just tried to do the same search and its awfully true. I thought the results might be biased from the USA side compared to the rest of the world but no, its just a complete radicalization pipeline inside youtube.
This is a scam that targets very sick people. People in horrible pain. People who are scared their loved one is dying and nothing can be done.
It's a kind of scam I have a particular ire for.
I think people have mostly been laughing at it, but this is very real for some people and they think it's their only chance to live. And when they are dead AND broke the scammers will keep their money.
There is an even worse worst case: They go for the scam instead of an effective treatment, and this scam actually kills people that didn't have to die.
@drexer I've noticed in the dementia world that a group of people believe that there MUST be a cure. And if the medical world doesn't have it—or worse is hiding it for nefarious reasons—then “alternative medicine” MUST have the cure. And thus people are more open to scams.
This is made worse by poor understanding of science. I remember in discussions in youth that my rabbi said “what if you do this and there is a cure tomorrow.” Doesn't work this way.
I've found a bunch of private facebook groups where people discuss this stuff. I think that's where the real action (financial transactions) are happening.
Some of these groups seem to be "pay to join" just to find out more about the medbeds. They have a lot of members.
We may not hear from those who are scammed since they feel shame, or they die (this targets the terminally ill) or they are convinced they will get to use the bed if they stay quiet.
In case this needs to be said. Medbeds don't exist. Many of the photos are AI generated and based on MRI machines which larger hospitals use to scan people for things like cancerous tumors, or to plan complex surgeries.
In the past hyperbolic chambers were used to treat polio. No one is hiding this technology.

I suppose it was overdetermined that it in a world with artificial scarcity of medical care and a widespread need to believe in magical health cures, an idea like this would thrive. But I actually never heard of it until today--it entered the QAnon conspiracy world after I'd stopped paying attention to their madness.
A segment of the population simply isn't able to see that this is true at all. Kind of hard to understand but once you understand this suddenly a lot of the other things people are falling for starts to make sense.
To many people Trump is a likable and tough fatherly figure who is honest about his failings and not scared to call out the BS that comes from newspapers and TV shows.

The conspiracy is that it's alien technology, or human technology that no one knows how to replicate and there are only a few thousand beds, so "they" don't want it to be public since it's a limited resource and "they" want to hog it all for themselves.

Summary: the cradle; e.g. medbed, using technology that the users do not understand but allows them to live 4000 years. I recommend the story, but not the cradle.
I like Sci-Fi, but not the people using it to sell stuff based on it, and in some cases, not understanding that "Fi" stands for "fiction", is getting old.

There's a signal failure somewhere between Amsterdam centraal and Utrecht. Usually there's at least 4 trains an hour between the two. There's also 4 trains an hour between Amsterdam Zuid and Utrecht Centraal. The trains from zuid are running still (signal failure must be somewhere around Amstel then). But everyone who wanted to travel from Centraal has taken the metro to Zuid. Those 4 trains an hour are now carrying 8 trains worth of people.
Anyone who's been following me for a while will know I talk about how a train in normal service should never be more than half full. This is why. By not filling the trains. You have resilience. The boss of NS has complained that a lot of the time they are moving warm air around. Yes. That's the resilience of the system. That's now it can cope with problems. It's a feature, not a bug.
The idea that trains should always be full is just fucked up bean counter thinking.
As anyone who heard my public transport rant at crumpet camp at WHY2025 will know, as will long term followers. The purpose of public transport is to transport the public. Nothing more. If it makes a profit, great. But the primary aim. Above all others. Is to transport the public. And to do that safely, and effectively, the system needs resilience. Resilience comes from spare capacity.
If the trains are more than half full. You need to run more trains.

@gmarcosanti BBBBello il camino/stufa ! L'ho avuto anni fa ed ora ho ripiegato sulla stufa . Mi era molto utile il camino e poi aveva lo sportello avanti con doppia apertura , una in orizzontale e una tipo bascula che poteva permettermi di tenerlo aperto senza fare uscire fumo . 😁
