I didn't fully appreciate what happened in this photo until I looked back at the pictures later. I suspect the black kitten was in the middle of bathing itself when I so rudely interrupted them. They don't normally have a leg sticking out of their head.

When you are forced to belong to one or the other the concept becomes altogether more sinister and authoritarian.
#Fedilab is now ready for the new #Mastodon quote feature.
We opened an issue so accounts can manage the default policy for quotes in their profile and Mastodon devs already added it.
In this process, our main issue was to keep the compatibility of the quote feature that was previously implemented for others software (as they work differently - no policy). Fedilab will be able to detect and support both of them.

On 30 August 1918 Fanny Kaplan, a Jewish-Russian member of the Socialist-Revolutionary party shot and wounded Vladimir Lenin as he was leaving a factory in Moscow.
Kaplan viewed Lenin as a traitor to the revolution after the Bolsheviks enacted one-party rule and banned any opposition, thus laying foundations for the authoritarian state USSR became for the next 70 years. Kaplan was captured by “Cheka” and executed 3 September. Shortly after Bolshevik came for all other opposition parties and Red Terror started.
Back then very few Western socialists saw Bolshevik for what they really were. In 1922 anarchists Alexander Berkman and Emma Goldman wrote a dramatic letter “Bolsheviks Shooting Anarchists”[^1] which was received mostly with “tsk-tsk that was just another West-sponsored attack on good-willing Marxists-Leninists” by the Western left. One of the most precise analyses of the Bolshevik movement written by English socialist Bertrand Russell “The Practice and Theory of Bolshevis “[^2] was mostly met with… hostility.
If you are left-wing and honestly want to learn on past mistakes, I very much recommend Russell’s book - it’s a good read and it will tell you everything you need to know to understand the thinking and rhetoric of today’s #Russia

There was a whole international mission, including a significant Czechoslovak garrison operating in Siberia and helping the Whites. But what has been largely lost in the public discourse over the 70 years of Soviet narrative being dominant globally is that Bolshevik had overthrown the legitimate temporary government of Russia in 1917, not the Tsar. The actual Tsarism ended in February 1917 and was replaced by Russian Provisional Government, involved many Russian parties and was recognised internationally. The latter was the primary cause for the international intervention - Western countries simply supported the legitimate democratic Russian government at its request.
