Lack of good communications system is causing critical failures in the operation of public entities.
The problems I see in the operations of my town government and politics could be easily addressed with a good groupware system that accommodates both public and private asynchronous discussion with archivability.
Private social media and email platforms have become our de facto public communications systems, and they are very ill-suited to this task, not to mention a violation of the people’s right to know and participate.
Our communications system for checking out the ebikes from the library is frankly terrible, a mix of confusing copied email chains and text messages. The volunteers have no access to the library’s data systems. There are better ways of handling this.
Yesterday, @neo and me went to #BeitJala for a joint Palestinian / Jewish vigil for the #forcibly_involved children who keep getting killed in #gaza for reasons no one can explain (although many keep trying to invent reasons and believe in them). Moussa Balde era un amico e un compagno. Lo hanno trovato morto in una cella del CPR di Torino la notte tra il 22 e il 23 maggio 2021, dopo dieci giorni passati in isolamento. Dieci giorni in cui la direzione del CPR negava la sua presenza all’interno della struttura agli avvocati che lo stavano cercando, dopo essere stato picchiato e ridotto in gravi condizioni fisiche e psicologiche.
A 4 anni dagli eventi inizia il processo ai CPR, il processo più importante mai fatto in Italia contro il sistema dei CPR, al tribunale di Torino. Il 12 febbraio di quest’anno si è tenuta l’udienza preliminare del procedimento per omicidio colposo a carico della ex direttrice del CPR e del medico direttore sanitario della struttura all’epoca della morte di Moussa Balde. L’8 settembre si terrà la prima udienza: facciamoci sentire per sostenere la famiglia Balde nella lotta comune contro i CPR!

Era troppo facile per me dare 0.5 stelle a questo film, per quanto sia uno dei film più inconsistenti, confusi, insensati, bizzarri, esilaranti per i motivi sbagliati...
Inizia come uno di quei film di fantascienza di basso budget ma diventa in pochi minuti una monnezza incredibile che va oltre l'immaginazione. I costumi anche ridicoli e meno creativi, come se avessero le stesse taglie di capelli.
Allora dovrei dire che in tal caso ho fatto bene invece guardare 1990 - I guerrieri del bronx, perché dopotutto, la trama li aveva un minimo di senso ed era stato dunque un film da 6 stelle.
Chi aveva l'idea della regia di questo film non credo abbia l'idea di come si dirige un film per bene, o non abbia mai guardato film in vita sua.
"Throughout the book, Doctorow uses an extended medical metaphor, naming his sections things like “The Pathology,” “The Epidemiology,” and finally “The Cure.” But remember, he identified the root cause of enshittification as the profit-seeking nature of corporations themselves, as corporations. But with that in mind, it’s strange that the solution he arrives at isn’t particularly anti-capitalist or anti-market. In a memorable metaphor, he describes tech CEOs as showing up to work every morning, “going directly to the giant ENSHITTIFICATION lever installed in the C-suite and yanking on it as hard as they can.” But, he says, “the difference is that the lever used to be stuck. It was gummed up by competition, by regulation, by interoperability [users’ ability to easily switch software], and by tech workers’ power and conscience.” By restoring all of those things, he hopes to re-gum the lever.
But this is a limited horizon to aim for. It promises restrained and regulated tech companies, perhaps chastened and better-behaved, but it does not challenge the idea that for-profit companies should be the ones making and maintaining the technology we all rely on. The question remains: why should we accept the existence of a malevolent CEO with an enshittification lever at all?"

There is. Gen Z is the most progressive generation, from stocks to our purchases to our dreams (e.g. living a simple life in a farm) we are creating the hyperstructure required for a new economic base. A friend, who doesn’t even know what solarpunk is and is very startup oriented wanted to created what is basically a small commune with other friends. The dominoes are falling into place. What you can do is find your own role in the future.

the St. John’s Bridge is a gem. It mystifies. Going over it is sort of an experience. Even with all the amazing bridges in our area, this one is something else. Especially while traveling west.
My wife has driven her scooter over it a few times and said that’s even more magical than while being in a car.

there’s only one photo-realistic mural of the St. John’s bridge (that I’ve seen) and it is at the sky high pot shop. a little hard to see in this photo but the words Sky High are placed in gothic lettering on either side of the tallest point of the bridge’s highest arch, as if that’s where the store’s products will take you. I like how this mural features a reflective pond that doesn’t exist irl, but does relate visually to other tienda style murals on the block #pdx

Alshiref also tried to upsell me on this limited edition (last one!) ply pannier set—st John’s bridge art collab he did with his friend. I was VERY tempted but didn’t have a rear rack on my bike at the time so couldn’t get them back to my house. Alshiref was out when I first got to his downtown shop so I wandered into Kiriko shop next door which has tons of cool Japanese stuff, a line of re-tooled durable luxury clothing items using older Japanese fabrics, and apparently one custom handkerchief design for tourists honoring their Portland location which (of course) features the St John’s bridge, showing how the bridge often signifies not just love for St. John’s but also for the whole city
I met Mel the artist behind Hello Magnolia printshop (“anti capitalist, paper centric”) at the annual St. John’s art walk a few weeks ago. like me, they enjoy just walking around looking at the bridge and generally feeling creative. I bought their original Polaroid emulsion lift “bridge dyptich” after our chat, which I think captures those vibes pretty well
