@screwlisp Hey, I had an idea for a way to make an eepitch-slime that would support switching easily between several targets! Can you help me to write a "bad prototype" like what you've been doing, in which you have two SBCLs talking to one another? Can we a arrange a way to chat?
I only have the idea right now, and it is something very vaguely inspired by the traceback buffers in Slime/Sly that would be hard to summarize in a few sentences... my plan was to ask you how you would translate this to two SBCLs running in parallel, with Slime controlling both - just forget the 3-window setting and use a 2-window setting, it would be easier for you - and then I'll start by your translation and build the interface the selects the right Slime target...
generating ee find functions for the different repls? For my high level example I have written just now, I have one slime repl in charge of redrawing a gnuplot, and I have a second slime repl in charge of making the data for the gnuplot.
Debugging my example, whatever I typed didn't seem to get sending redraw to the gnuplot to redraw yet though so I will still be a few minutes.
Oh right I looked at your picture, something like using named pipes? As you saw in my gif, I gravitated towards emacs server-start and then using an emacsclient process to evaluate in emacs, possibly evaluating eepitch-send.
I forget exactly what, but asyncronously starting an external process inside common lisp slime was necessary to avoid what were tricky hook issues I think.
I really want the eepitch buffer I just pitched to to be able to use eepitch itself on another buffer.
I didn't quite get to it but in my example today, you can see I have a three buffer configuration, where my control buffer is alternating commands between an SBCL image to numerically compute values, and an ECL image running a graphical app.

That's so far above my level that I can't think anything about it yet! I am still trying to work on the things that will make some of your experiments "testable", or "more testable", by me... I tried McClim and its installation was broken, I tried ASDF and found it very confusing, I still know very little about UIOP, and for me some very basic things about how you use Slime are still a mystery... I kill and restart my eepitch sessions all the time, and I don't even know if you do that too or not...
At some point I would be able to test your prototypes in 30 minutes each, instead of taking two evenings for each one - and with little chance of success in each case... and at that point testing your things will become a priority in my spare-ish time.
That is an important goal for me to work towards as well- I guess the "it works on my computer" problem. I'm just in a different city to normal right now, so it's a bad time for me to communicate this couple of days particularly.
Great!!! I have some tricks for testing things on a clean Emacs in /tmp/fakehomedir/ - they're not super convenient so I don't use them all the time, but they work...
I really like your temporary file/directory, git stuff, the thing with the customized code-c-d with regex, though well-integrating it and also sharing with others are two big challenges.
I appreciate how much effort you put into conveying how easy eev is to use.
If I ever create another character in #FFXIV, I will not make the mistake of not levelling all the crafting and gathering classes at once, so gear is shared.
I think that having four retainers is probably ideal, for an extra $4/mo subscription fee: 2 Miners to eventually mine topsoils simultaneously (you can otherwise only get a single topsoil at a time, when you need 8 to fill a garden), one Botanist, and one Fisher. That also gives you 700 extra inventory slots, 175 per retainer.
The 8 crafting classes can all share armor and accessories, the 3 gathering classes can share armor and accessories. As your retainers level up, you can hand the gear down to them.
Culinarian especially takes up a ridiculous amount of inventory space, but this is only slightly less true of all the other crafting classes. And Fisher is a little silly with how you are pretty much required to metagame it, and how many inv. slots you need to keep open just for fish and bait, esp. while fishing.
And the fact that there's really no good way to automate crafting other than macros for specific recipes (which still have to be activated manually), no way to guarantee 100% high quality results when Quick Crafting, even at high levels, is truly frustrating, one of the things for which I think Square Enix deserves harsh criticism.
There's also the issue where the Role Quests in #FFXIV #Shadowbringers, #Endwalker, and #Dawntrail cover multiple jobs, and if you aren't levelling them all up at the same time, you can't split the EXP between them.
Since I didn't unlock Culinarian and Fisher before I levelled up all the others to 100, I can't go back and re-do those quests for the EXP for CUL or FSH.
And, just from the perspective of worldbuilding as a game designer, there are so many things abou #FFXIV that make no sense, like we're supposed to believe that there's no such thing as trade with the areas we haven't unlocked yet, until we unlock them.
Or, right now, I'm crafting Rarefied Griller Rail, and it requires Garlean Garlic, an ingredient from literally a different *dimension*, a different *universe*.
and you can only buy the Garlean Garlic in one place, the Culinarian's Guild in Limsa Lominsa (plus a few speciality suppliers you dont' normally have access to), or harvest it in one specific place in Thanalan, despite the fact that garlic, as we all know, is one of humanity's most beloved ingredients, worldwide, and is grown and sold literally everywhere on Earth, except maybe the polar regions.
and actually, the Rarefied Grilled Rail requires two different ingredients from another universe, because it also requires Abalathian Rock Salt, from one specific place in The Sea of Clouds.
Like, WTF were they thinking? At least travel between the worlds, once you get to that part, is relatively cheap, but from a worldbuilding perspective, it's nonsensical.
Looks like the cheapest I can get lemon curd here is Wilkins Tiptree for $6.79 via Amazon. Well, that’s 70¢ cheaper than local, and it’s shipped right to my doorstep, if they don’t break the jar on the way.

As a musician, I don't think "acoustic" is the proper term for a bicycle, and my ebike isn't automatic in any way, so "manual" isnt' right, either. My ebike also requires me to use my human muscle power just as much, it just goes faster than my conventional bicycle.

I have been using analogue instead tho' even though that makes even less sense. nothing about my Class 1 eBike is digital other than the controller/display, and any bike can have a digital display on it.
Enviolo Automatiq allows you to focus on your surroundings and enjoy your ride without worrying about shifting gears. It offers Fully Automatic shifting based on your riding terrain, pedal cadence, and bicycle speed.
I was actually already aware of the Enviolo with the automatic shifting, but I neither have one nor want one. I wouldn’t mind an Enviolo manual, though. One of our library bikes has it.
Also, calling the Enviolo “internally geared” is misleading, as it doesn’t use gears, at all. It uses a variable camber friction roller system. It’s quite ingenious, although a bit inefficient and cannot handle very high torque.

In no circumstance would I ever find it useful to have the entire body of a post selected when I click “Edit”, and then tap on the text to position the cursor, so that I need to then tap outside the selected area to deselect it, so that I can then tap again where I wanted the cursor in the first place.

The problems I see in the operations of my town government and politics could be easily addressed with a good groupware system that accommodates both public and private asynchronous discussion with archivability.
Private social media and email platforms have become our de facto public communications systems, and they are very ill-suited to this task, not to mention a violation of the people’s right to know and participate.
Our communications system for checking out the ebikes from the library is frankly terrible, a mix of confusing copied email chains and text messages. The volunteers have no access to the library’s data systems. There are better ways of handling this.

Era troppo facile per me dare 0.5 stelle a questo film, per quanto sia uno dei film più inconsistenti, confusi, insensati, bizzarri, esilaranti per i motivi sbagliati...
Inizia come uno di quei film di fantascienza di basso budget ma diventa in pochi minuti una monnezza incredibile che va oltre l'immaginazione. I costumi anche ridicoli e meno creativi, come se avessero le stesse taglie di capelli.
Allora dovrei dire che in tal caso ho fatto bene invece guardare 1990 - I guerrieri del bronx, perché dopotutto, la trama li aveva un minimo di senso ed era stato dunque un film da 6 stelle.
Chi aveva l'idea della regia di questo film non credo abbia l'idea di come si dirige un film per bene, o non abbia mai guardato film in vita sua.

There is. Gen Z is the most progressive generation, from stocks to our purchases to our dreams (e.g. living a simple life in a farm) we are creating the hyperstructure required for a new economic base. A friend, who doesn’t even know what solarpunk is and is very startup oriented wanted to created what is basically a small commune with other friends. The dominoes are falling into place. What you can do is find your own role in the future.

It's (partially) async and works for slime1 ! slime2 ! slime1 and so forth I think.
