Everybody is talking about E2EE but nobody is mentioning the age verification procedures that they want to put. Games like Minecraft will need ID for anyone to play on the App stores. Like what the fuck is going on.

You wanna know why this is even a possibility to use to lie? Because parents don't do shit. They give their 10 year old a tablet and fuck all. And then what happens? I have to send my credit card information to God knows where to watch kitten videos.

To @kik1 @whvholst @Ysann and others: I hear you. To be clear: I despise Trump’s authoritarianism. But here's the reality—under the EP’s #ChatControl 1.0 blackmail the Council may be about to endorse #ChatControl 2.0. We've tried everything else for years. What else could make EU conservatives like von der Leyen & Dobrindt stop pushing this bill relentlessly? They trample on privacy & communication secrecy, but they do bow to America.

Why appeal to the US? Because it worked before: US diplomatic pressure stopped the UK from breaking Apple's iCloud encryption. reuters.com/sustainability/boa…

This isn’t about GDPR, DMA or DSA. Private & secure communication is a human right: defending it is a global responsibility, not meddling.

It’s a distasteful choice, but the alternative may be letting the EU create a mass surveillance, #E2EE-destroying scheme that every dictator in the world will copy. That, to me, is the greater danger.

Es ist nicht so, dass »Client Side Scanning« von (behördlich bekannten) Inhalten ohne False Positives prinzipiell nicht möglich wäre. Das ist sogar ziemlich trivial.

Was aber nicht geht ist, das glaubwürdig auf CSAM zu beschränken. Wie soll man das überhaupt unabhängig überprüfen können, ohne mit dem entsprechenden Material zu hantieren? Da bekommen Behörden ein mächtiges Zensurinstrument in die Hände, das sich aber perfiderweise praktisch jeder Kontrolle entzieht.

Und die Annahme, dass Leute bereitwillig Code ausführen, der nur dazu dient, sie zu belasten, ist ohnehin naiv.

Seit langem blasen rechte Akteure zum Angriff auf die Zivilgesellschaft. Nun verspricht Familienministerin Prien in einem Brief an die Union, dass Nichtregierungsorganisationen im Programm „Demokratie leben“ einer „breit angelegten Verfassungsschutzprüfung“ unterzogen würden. Wie viele Organisationen durchleuchtet werden, will das Ministerium nicht verraten.

Die rechten Akteure sind nur die Nachhut. Den wahren Angriff auf die Zivilgesellschaft haben andere jahrzehntelang geführt: CDU, CSU, SPD, FDP, Grüne. Z.B. mit Hartz4, Hetze gegen Ungeimpfte und gegen Menschen die sich für den Frieden einsetzen, Entrechtung von Asylbewerbern, Verfall von Schulen und Infrastruktur, Militarisierung, Überwachung, etc.. Sie haben die Saat gesät. Die AFD fährt nur die Ernte ein.

@celeduc GDPR penalties go to the responsible countries and cannot be collected by the Commission. But yes, meaningful enforcement could be relevant to countries' budgets.

Seit Monaten protestieren Microsoft-Mitarbeitende in den USA dagegen, dass ihr Unternehmen Geschäftsbeziehungen zum israelischen Militär und der israelischen Regierung unterhält. Microsoft hat einige demonstrierende Angestellte entlassen. Zugleich will das Unternehmen prüfen, ob israelische Streitkräfte die Azure-Plattform zur Überwachung von Palästinenser:innen nutzen.

🗓️ At the EU’s high-level dialogue, industry called for “simplification” & reforms, while, with others, we warned: don’t reopen the Regulation.

✅ The Commission’s own evaluation shows the GDPR works. What’s missing is enforcement & resources, not backsliding.

🚨 Proposals to “simplify” Article 30(5) risk opening the window to erosion of hard-won protections.
