Domani, mercoledì 8 febbraio, in mattinata verrà aggiornato Feddit alla versione di Lemmy 0.17.1.
Abbiamo fatto l'aggiornamento sulla piattaforma di test e non ci sono stati problemi, l'unica cosa è che ci sarà un aggiornamento del database che impiegherà diverso tempo per essere fatto. Non so dirvi quanto perché non ne ho idea, il sito lemmy.ml con un database gigantesco ci ha impiegato quasi 24 ore. Feddit penso sia in un'ordine di grandezza decisamente inferiore. Durante quel periodo il sito rimarrà chiaramente irraggiungibile.
I cambiamenti nella 0.17.1 sono davvero molti e li trovate tutti qui:

Purtroppo anche il crossposter MOA che permette di sincronizzare un account twitter con uno mastodon ha annunciato che non funzionerà più come prima dal 9 febbraio, questo a causa delle API twitter che saranno solo a pagamento. Qui il comunicato:

Anche il sito web del progetto è statoaggiornato affinché possa spiegare meglio il progetto 😅
Mentre il playground (una vecchia istanza di test) riguardava la sperimentazione l'UX e tutte le diverse funzionalità ed estensioni in lavorazione, la nuova istanza campgroung ha solo le estensioni core e social abilitate mentre per concentrarsi sulla loro stabilizzazione (inclusa la federazione) prima di una versione v1.0 🔥

Nel settembre del 2011, alcuni di noi si incontrarono in un’aula dell’Università di Milano per discutere della politica universitaria all’indomani della riforma Gelmini. Per molti di noi era la prima occasione di incontro; le strade professionali e anche i luoghi geografici di provenienza erano e sono molto diversi, come anche le prospettive di ciascuno sul problema della politica dell’istruzione e della ricerca.
A valle di quell’incontro, decidemmo di fondare questo sito, prima come contenitore per raccogliere articoli ed interventi, ma anche dati e informazioni che non era facile reperire altrove. In seguito, gradatamente e in parallelo al susseguirsi di riforme dell’Università e della Scuola, il sito ROARS è cresciuto, diventando un riferimento nazionale sul tema delle politiche dell’istruzione. Negli ultimi anni, in particolare, si è ampliato lo spazio dedicato alla scuola.
La valorizzazione del merito nella Scuola e nell’Università è una delle bussole che la politica ha dichiaratamente seguito nella progettazione e nell’attuazione di queste riforme. Chi di noi aveva letto L’ascesa della meritocrazia il libro del sociologo inglese Michael Young, scritto negli anni 50, non poteva che rimanere perplesso.
Ci è sembrato pertanto naturale, nel decennale della fondazione di questo sito, organizzare un convegno per discutere della meritocrazia e di come è stata tradotta nelle politiche dell’istruzione in Italia e all’estero.
Vi aspettiamo numerosi a Trento il 24-25 febbraio 2023.

I am a bit worried about the number of people here who, like me, are fairly recent arrivals, and who are using the so-called 'extreme' and 'unreasonable' reactions to them wanting to 'hack' the fediverse to write off the whole conversation around consent as somehow not relevant.The NSA monitors anything you do on the internet anyway, so why are you complaining about tech bros wanting to harvest out in the open, yada yada.
It seems we need to define what consent actually is.

I would fully agree that other internet protocols are much better suited to information not meant to be broadcast publicly.
Civility is great, and should be highly encouraged. That's largely why I like Lemmy. Each instance can guide its community in line with its values, whatever those may be, block offenders, and generally forge the space it wishes.
However, I think Besse's comments on setting the correct expectations in the public sphere are worth considering.
For a different internet example: all the messages I send in any chatroom on an IRC server will inevitably be logged by someone, especially in popular rooms. Any assumption to the contrary would be naïve, and demanding that people not keep a log any of my publicly broadcast messages would be laughed at by the operators. It's a public space, and sending anything to that space necessarily means I forgo my ability to control who sees, aggregates, archives, or shares that information. My choice to put the information into that space is the opt-in mechanism, just how books or interviews do the same offline in print.
It's not so much the protocol as it is how making things public fundamentally works.

Sono un po' preoccupata per il numero di persone qui che, come me, sono arrivate abbastanza di recente, e che stanno sperimentando le cosiddette reazioni "estreme" e "irragionevoli" a loro che vogliono "hackerare" il fediverso per cancellare il l'intera conversazione sul consenso come in qualche modo non rilevante.
La NSA monitora comunque tutto ciò che fai su Internet, quindi perché ti lamenti dei fratelli tecnologici che vogliono raccogliere all'aperto, yada yada.
Sembra che dobbiamo definire cosa sia effettivamente il consenso.
Esiste solo una forma di consenso dell'utente valido;
CONSENSO INFORMATO, ENTUSIASTICO, REVOCA.
Questo è tutto. Senza se, senza ma.
L'utente deve capire per cosa sta dando il consenso e l'ambito per il quale il suo consenso è valido.
Devono essere entusiasti, totalmente d'accordo con la decisione, non accettarla a malincuore perché sentono di non avere altra scelta.
E devono essere in grado di revocare tale consenso in qualsiasi momento, tra cinque minuti o tra cinque anni.
Il loro consenso dovrebbe essere limitato nel tempo e scadere automaticamente quando non interagiscono più con il tuo servizio o prodotto.
Se modifichi l'ambito, devi chiedere nuovamente il loro consenso e assicurarti che comprendano l'impatto delle modifiche che stai apportando.

È così radicato nella cultura bianca e occidentale di Internet che ora ci sono intere generazioni che considerano tutto ciò che può essere letto dal crawler che hanno scritto in un fine settimana come un gioco leale, indipendentemente da quale fosse l'intenzione originale dell'utente.

I am a bit worried about the number of people here who, like me, are fairly recent arrivals, and who are using the so-called 'extreme' and 'unreasonable' reactions to them wanting to 'hack' the fediverse to write off the whole conversation around consent as somehow not relevant.The NSA monitors anything you do on the internet anyway, so why are you complaining about tech bros wanting to harvest out in the open, yada yada.
It seems we need to define what consent actually is.

@Arthur Besse Thank you for reporting this nice previous thread that already appeared on another Lemmy instance, also because this way I can re-share it from my account. And thanks to your comment, there won't even be a need to edit the original post to report the long thread on Lemmy.ml.
However, I would still have decided to publish an Italian version on feddit.it. Indeed, feddit.it is an instance dedicated to discussions in Italian that we do not crosspost conversations in English, unless at least translating the title. But in this case I had seen the original link from Friendica and I saw that it came from a post on mastodon and not on Lemmy.
I also point out that the link you sent is the right one to link the conversation on the lemmy.ml instance, but if someone wants to search for the post to interact with mastodon or Friendica or pleroma, they will have to enter the native link https in the search box ://szmer.info/post/251205 since the user is seated on the lemmy instance szmer.info

Trying #ivory now. Tweetbot’s death really cemented the “there’s no going back to how it was” feel of late stage Twitter for me, and this is (so far!) wonderful.
I’ll carry on experimenting with alternatives, but I suspect, based on past experience, this is what I’ll be using. 😁

I think Mastodon shouldn't have paid employees
It should have only volunteers
The site's expenditures should be paid for by donations only

Then it could grow to actually become a "humane" challenger to Musk's profit-oriented App

If I’m a new user looking at Mastodon for the first time, that’s a giant turnoff for me. Especially if I don’t understand the server concept, which is frankly not well explained on the app’s splash screen.

i was given this server for Jewish folks, which i am not. worries me that people with anti-semitic views could be pushed onto such a server by default and create problems for the users and admins there. even if they wouldn’t seek out the server to join, it is now presented to them as the default here. a bit of an issue i think.

Probably should have a tighter, more curated, selection of servers to randomly pick from, vs just a use-the-general-category situation. At least to start or until you can verify data cleanliness

- people wanted to join but stopped at choosing a server
- comment section is a mess
- people are not as connected as they are on twitter because of servers
you must fix these if you want people to move here AND STAY

in reply to Mastodon • • •Normally I use #metatext but gave the new #mastodonapp update for iOS a try. Nice design and I can edit posts which Metatext can‘t.
What I don’t like:
- Pinned toots do not show in profiles. This sometimes buries some really great but older content 😏👎
- Visibility of toots can still not be set to „unlisted“. For me not a big thing as I compose longer threads in the browser. But it‘s a useful feature which was implemented for a good reason in mastodon and should be part of the M-app.
