I think a second American civil war is very likely to happen at some point in the future. If we don't figure out some kind of degrowth very soon, the inevitable shrinking of the world economy will become a collapse.
And the collapse of the global Capitalist economy will lead to all kinds of conflicts everywhere, and in the USA, it will probably take the shape of a civil war. It will be different from the first one, there won't be a single front, but instead it will be a chaotic fractal pattern, and I don't think the states will be united ever again when it is finally over. It might begin next Thursday, or it might begin in a decade or two.
Collapse isn't a huge explosion, and then everybody is dead. Collapse is when there is no stability anymore and you can't count on anything to keep working as intended. Collapse is dissolving order and eacalating chaos. Authoritarians, fanatics, and religious extremists thrive in a collapse situation.
@maridonkers Maybe, maybe not. I don't think the Industrial Age has more than 300 years left, maybe less than 50. I don't think our technological complexity will grow very much further than what we have today, and once it collapses, there won't be another high-tech machine era ever again. The technology of the future will look a lot like that of the pre-industrial past, except for a few relics.

People are doing everything they can to keep living "normal" lives while normality is becoming more and more absurd. Like the curfew in India in the 2060s where people are only allowed outside after dark, and they spend the day dozing in air conditioned plastic cocoons.

A British migration wave from X to Bluesky, Flipboard expands their fediverse integration, and more.
The News
Bluesky has seen a new migration wave away from X towards Bluesky, which consists predominantly of people from the UK. The move comes as Labour MPs begin quitting X, as The Guardian reports, as Musk feuds with the UK government over recent riots in the UK, per Reuters. Quite a few MPs have signed up for Bluesky, here is a starter pack with all MPs that are on Bluesky. In the UK press issues with X have become a subject of conversation again. It is clear that in the perspective of the UK press there are two alternatives to X, either Threads or Bluesky. Mastodon mostly does not get mentioned at all, and neither has Mastodon experienced any meaningful change in signup numbers during this period. The FORbetter newsletter takes a look at Google trends data which also shows that it is all Threads and Bluesky, with Mastodon missing the boat. What is also notable about this Bluesky migration wave is that it is spread out quite far in time, and less spiky. Previous waves (such as when an Indonesian community or the BTS ARMY joined Bluesky) tend to have a very big spike at the beginning which then quickly dies down: in this case, an increase started almost two weeks ago, which plateaued a week later with multiple days staying at the same level. This all indicates a more steady and consistent interest from the UK in Bluesky.
Flipboard has expanded their fediverse integration, and with the latest update you can follow people from the rest of the fediverse in the Flipboard app. Flipboard is now getting close to full two-way federation, as some accounts can also like and reply to other fediverse posts with their Flipboard account. Some more reporting by WeDistribute and The Verge on the feature. Flipboard is heavily leaning on federated Threads accounts for the new feature: 80% of the accounts that were recommended to me by Flipboard are Threads accounts. On the flip side, Flipboard does not seem to be particularly focused on Bluesky, with no (bridged) accounts recommended, and the account for Bluesky board member Mike Masnick is his Mastodon account, and not his more active Bluesky account.
An observation about Bluesky: one thing that interests me about Bluesky is how some of the experimental new features that are implemented find traction not in their original intended use case, but get repurposed by the community for another goal instead. Third party labeling is implemented by Bluesky as a way to do community labeling, but as good moderation is hard to do (and the most prominent labelers have called it quits). Instead, a different use case for labeling is emerging: self-labeling: setting your pronouns, country flags, or your fursona. Another emergent use case is for starter packs, which have gotten low usage during regular periods (with more use during migration sign-up waves), which seem to be more used as a Follow-Friday list.

In addition to several improvements and new features, this release contains several fixes for security issues reported by apexrabbit, Devilx86 and ponlayookm โ Thank you for the reports! We strongly recommend all Friendica admins to update their installations to this stable release.
The highlights of Friendica 2024.08 are
the usage of system resources and performance has been improved in various parts of Friendica,
added monitoring endpoints for e.g. Zabbix and Grafana,
added shortened display of links (default 30 characters, admins can define the length in the config file via the display_link_length)
Note that the minimal PHP version for Friendica was raised to PHP 7.4 with this release.

What is Friendica
Friendica is a decentralised communications platform, you can use to host your own social media server that integrates with independent social networking platforms (like the Fediverse or Diaspora*) but also some commercial ones like Tumbler and BlueSky.
Ensure that the last backup of your Friendica installation was done recently.
Using Git
Updating from the git repositories should only involve a pull from the Friendica core repository and addons repository, regardless of the branch (stable or develop) you are using. Remember to update the dependencies with composer as well. So, assuming that you are on the stable branch, the commands to update your installation to the 2024.08 release would be cd friendica git pull bin/composer.phar install --no-dev cd addon git pull If you want to use a different branch than the stable one, you need to fetch and checkout the branch before your perform the git pull.
Pulling in the dependencies with composer will show some deprecation warning, we will be working on that in the upcoming release.
Using the Archive Files
Due to problems with the build pipeline we cannot provide archive files at the moment that contain all dependencies as usual. We will update this documents as soon as possible.
Do not use the archive files provided by github as they do not contain the dependencies.
Post Update Tasks
The database update should be applied automatically, but sometimes it gets stuck. If you encounter this, please initiate the DB update manually from the command line by running the script bin/console dbstructure update from the base of your Friendica installation. If the output contains any error message, please let us know using the channels mentioned below.
Please note, that some of the changes to the database structure will take some time to be applied, depending on the size of your Friendica database this update might run for days.

If you want to contribute to the project, you donโt need to have coding experience. There are a number of tasks listed in the issue tracker with the label โJunior Jobsโ we think are good for new contributors. But you are by no means limited to these โ if you find a solution to a problem (even a new one) please make a pull request at github or let us know in the development forum.
Contribution to Friendica is also not limited to coding. Any contribution to the documentation, the translation or advertisement materials is welcome or reporting a problem. You donโt need to deal with Git(Hub) or Transifex if you donโt like to. Just get in touch with us and we will get the materials to the appropriate places.

Per ora sono soddisfatto cosรฌ, devo solo spostare le configurazioni di Ranger e Micro per personalizzare il tema. Poi, con calma, vedrรฒ se sarร il caso di vedere se non servirร fare i salti mortali per mettere evil e la org mode, cosรฌ magari ci butto su anche #Emacs. Ma mooolto con calma.

Continuavo a ripetere 'lo faccio io, datemi tre giorni ed รจ pronto' questi dell'agenzia hanno simulato immense difficoltร nella costruzione del sito per giustificare tutto. Quando mi hanno passato gli accessi ho anche visto una ventina di chat con l'assistenza per cose BASE. Io ero sotto shock. Questi hanno preso il mio posto.

Una laureata in Marketing allo Iulm di Milano non sapeva che lo spazio web si paga, cosรฌ come i temi. 'Pensavo che una volta pagato internet si avesse tutto'. Wired was manipulated into spreading misinformation to market Palantir and iVerify by misrepresenting a vulnerability in a disabled demo app as being a serious problem which could be exploited in the real world. They should retract the article but won't.

per un auto, invece, stimerei un paio di mยฒ tra tetto e cofano e ho trovato [1] che da un consumo medio di 191 Wh/km, che significa che anche sfruttando ogni minima quantitร di energia che arriva dal sole ci vogliono quasi 100 ore sotto il sole per percorrere un km, e contando che il sole c'รจ soprattutto nella parte centrale della giornata arrivi a quasi due settimane per avere abbastanza carica per fare un km. le auto possono diventare piรน efficienti, magari in futuro si puรฒ riuscire anche a caricare abbastanza in un giorno per fare un km. si fa comunque prima ad andare a piedi ๐
@yuribravos invece una cosa che si potrebbe fare con dei pannelli ultraflessibili รจ: RIDATECI I PARASOLE!
un bel parasole, bordo di pizzo opzionale (ma l'alternativa รจ una frangia ๐ ), con un power bank di medie dimensioni nel manico (con usb power delivery) e l'opzione di attaccare una batteria piรน grossa tramite cavo (con un pannello delle dimensioni di un parasole la si carica tranquillamente, ma inizia ad essere troppo pesante per il manico).
Quello รจ fatto apposta per stare al sole, sotto c'รจ dell'aria in movimento che dissipa il calore in eccesso e *poi* c'รจ l'umano che si vuole proteggere dal sole e dal caldo, รจ di dimensioni sufficienti per caricare dispositivi mobili ed essere utile, e *volete mettere quanto elegante non รจ andarci in giro*??? ๐
(perรฒ seriamente nella base dell'ombrellone si puรฒ mettere un bel batterione pesante e capiente โ sempre che non si sia una spiaggia organizzata e si lascino direttamente tutti gli ombrelloni collegati alla rete)

Oggi, per masochismo, ho provato a fare un'analisi stilistica del testo dell'Inno di Mameli, e cazzo, รจ un testo terribile, involuto, inutilmente complesso, inelegante...
Es. "Le spade mercenarie sono giunchi che si piegano (Son giunchi che piegano le spade vendute)" dove il verbo piegare diventa intransitivo. "Il sangue d'Italia bevรฉ, col cosacco, il sangue polacco", incomprensibile: "[L'Austria] bevve il sangue d'Italia [e], con la Russia (Il Cosacco), il sangue Polacco".
Secondo me la prima frase non ha bisogno di parafrasi. ร comprensibilissima. Al massimo: Le spade mercenarie sono come i giunchi che si piegano. Ma io avevo 5 a italiano, magari dico stupidaggini. ๐
@ecate85 diciamo che in italiano sembra "Le spade sono piegate dai giunchi", proprio perchรฉ "piegano", in italiano, non รจ intransitivo. Perรฒ forse alle orecchie di un toscano risulta comprensibile perchรฉ utilizza il verbo piegare come intransitivo, quando invece dovrebbe utilizzarsi l'intransitivo riflessivo.
@ecate85 perรฒ sul dizionario lo trovo solo come transitivo, se non nelle espressioni come "piegare sotto i colpi della sorte", probabilmente รจ un uso regionale toscano.
sicuramente i vernacoli toscani hanno conservato forme arcaiche, perรฒ sono regionalismi che non si trovano in altre regioni. Quando sono accettate come varianti nazionali (per es. "spengere" si trova sul dizionario con tosc., perรฒ c'รจ, quindi รจ considerabile italiano non-regionale).
Nessuno, credo, fuori dalla toscana userebbe la parola "desco", (cosรฌ come nessuno utilizzerebbe in toscana la parola "tovaglia" per indicare l'asciugamano, come invece avviene in Sicilia)
@Spazio il fatto che il testo sia cosรฌ ambiguo rivela il fatto che รจ un testo scritto con i piedi.
Ma la Russia non bevve mai il sangue d'Italia, il testo fa riferimento alla spartizione della Polonia, quindi credo che sia "L'Austria bevve il sangue d'Italia e, con la Russia, quello polacco", ma potrei sempre sbagliarmi.
@Captain_64 io credo sia proprio un testo scritto male:
"Dโin su la vetta della torre antica, passero solitario, alla campagna cantando vai finchรฉ non more il giorno; ed erra lโarmonia per questa valle." รจ un testo ottocentesco, ma รจ comprensibilissimo, non รจ ambiguo, nรฉ involuto.
@Captain_64 non lo critico in quanto inno nazionale (a me non piace, ma non importa), lo critico in quanto testo astruso e incomprensibile.
Coevo all'Inno di Mameli รจ l'Inno di Garibaldi, confronta il testo:
"La terra dei fiori, dei suoni e dei carmi, Ritorni, qual era, la terra dellโarmi; Di cento catene ci avvinser la mano, Ma ancor di Legnano โ sa i ferri brandir".
E' scritto meglio, piรน comprensibile, piรน chiaro.
@Captain_64 ripeto, non svilisco l'importanza storica di un testo, nรฉ il suo peso, la sua rilevanza, etc. e probabilmente tra i vari candidati รจ stata la scelta migliore come inno.

!RaccoonForFriendica Questo gruppo รจ stato creato per condividere informazioni sullo sviluppo di un nuovo client per Android per Friendica, sulla base di quanto fatto per Lemmy in un side-project che ha avuto qualche (seppur marginale) diffusione nel Fediverso.
Attualmente l'app รจ in pieno sviluppo e sembra un client Mastodon in stato embrionale cui mancano moltissime funzioni, perรฒ ha pochi giorni di vita quindi c'รจ tempo per andare avanti.
L'idea sarebbe quella di avere un'esperienza utente abbastanza simile a Mastodon, con on top la gestione delle cerchie e la visualizzazione degli account di tipo gruppo in "modalitร forum" (o "modalitร Lemmy" ๐).
