🔠 In Google’s Alphabet, C stands for control, not compliance.

That’s why with @article19, @fsfe, @HomoDigitalisGR @vrijschrift, we have filed a formal #DMA complaint vs. Alphabet.

Despite clear rules, Android users can’t uninstall pre-installed Google apps, only disable them.

This is deceptive design that limits real choice.

📣 We urge @EU_Commission to act & enforce the #digitalmarketsact.

@giacomo Your link shows that Google was below 10% for 2017, 2018 and 2023, so it is not all years since 2013 as you write.

The large corporations use and (let) write a lot of Free Software products and a thing they like about #FSFE is that legal experts can seek advise from colleagues about legal matters in that realm. fsfe.org/activities/ln/index.e…

We at FSFE are aware of potential conflict of interests and thus try to be as transparent as possible about where the money comes from. We are especially grateful to personal donors and many donating organisations that help to keep us independent from a single group of donors.

in reply to Bernhard E. Reiter

Uh, yeah for 3 years out of 11 #FSFE got less then 10% of its whole budget from Google, while in the other 8 years they got more then 10%... but hey! At least it was less then 20%!

🤢

Yeah, #BigTech like a thing or two about #FSFE for sure!

For example you take their money, while the #FSF refuse them.
And when you get more then 10% of your budget (but less then 20%!) you are eagger to join shitstorms against other #FreeSoftware activists on demand, lobbying another indipendent organization to adapt their board's decisions to your sponsors' desires.

You are not simply "aware" of "potential" conflict of interests, you activelly sell #US BigTech unsuspectable #EU legal-lobbying as a service!

That's what @edri@eupolicy.social should be aware of: whatever legal advice you get from @fsfe@mastodon.social, they aren't going to bite the hands that feed them.

📣 Is "disable" the same as "uninstall"? We do not believe it. Google does.

Under the DMA, the FSFE with a coalition of civil-society organisations prompts the @EUCommission to open proceedings to investigate Alphabet's (#Google) regarding the uninstallation of pre-installed apps in Android.

Uninstalling is completely removing the app, not just disabling it! This is key for #DeviceNeutrality!
