Il progetto openSNP, una piattaforma per la condivisione di dati genetici e fenotipici, chiuderà i battenti il 30 aprile 2025 ed eliminerà tutti i contributi degli utenti a causa di preoccupazioni sulla privacy e del rischio di un uso improprio da parte di governi autoritari.
La decisione è stata annunciata all'inizio di questa settimana dal co-fondatore Bastian Greshake Tzovaras, che ha espresso preoccupazione per il modo in cui i dati genomici personali sono oggi soggetti ad abusi e per come il panorama sia cambiato radicalmente negli ultimi 14 anni.
OpenSNP è una piattaforma gratuita e open source in cui gli individui possono caricare e condividere i propri dati genetici e fenotipici per scopi di ricerca e didattici.
Sebbene non sia affiliato a 23andMe, la stragrande maggioranza dei contributi ricevuti proveniva da utenti i cui genomi erano stati sequenziati da 23andMe.
Con la dichiarazione di fallimento di 23andMe, il flusso di nuovi dati inviati a openSNP si è sostanzialmente interrotto e Tzovaras non prevede che la situazione cambierà nel prossimo futuro.

Super clever, wir erhöhen den Stress für Geflüchtete, steigern die Frustration, agieren jeden jeglichen Forschungsstand - und wenn dann selbstverständlich die Kriminalitätsrate steigt individualisiert und rassifiziert man sie als Beleg, dass die Mauer noch nicht hoch genug und der Rassismus noch nicht hinreichend ausgeprägt.
