Was mich persönlich auch noch stört, ist die Art der Werbung auf Youtube. Wenn ich mal auf dem Handy schaue, wollen mir immer irgendwelche Lebensberater ihren Ultimativen Finanztipp geben, Temu und Co. den neusten Plastikmüll andrehen oder schlechte Letsplayer mir irgend ein 0815 Langweiliges Handyspiel andrehen. Melden oder Youtube sagen, das man den Müll nicht will ist so gut wie nicht möglich.

Überwachungsfreie Werbung ist nichts mehr wert. Werbung ist überhaupt nicht mehr viel wert, seit Werbetreibende messen können, wie wenig massenhafte ungezielte Werbung wirkt. Einzig auf die Person maßgeschneiderte Werbung ist noch irgendwas wert. Das werbefinanzierte Privatfernsehen ist ja auch voll am Absterben, seit die Werbetreibenden kein ernsthaftes Budget mehr für TV-Werbung haben, weil man beim Fernsehen nie weiß, ob das gerade jemand sieht, und ob die Person überhaupt zur Zielgruppe gehört, und weil viele lukrative Zielgruppen kaum noch fernsehen. Internetwerbung ohne Tracking ist halt auch nichts wert, die Werbetreibenden wissen, daß der größte Teil ihrer Werbung für die Tonne ist; Budgets für Werbung sind deshalb oft sehr knapp und müssen so optimal wie möglich eingesetzt werden.
Und je mehr man über irgendwen weiß, desto besser kann man seine Werbung maßschneidern. Man will ja nicht nur wissen, wer die Person ist, die auf eine Werbung klickt und dann etwas kauft, man will auch wissen, wer die Person ist, die eine Werbung mehrere Male gesehen hat, sich später irgendwann daran erinnert und dann das Produkt kauft. Und seine Werbestrategien entsprechend anpassen.

Es war ein großer Fehler, das Internet dem Kommerz zu überlassen. Bei Geocities war es noch einigermaßen lustig, das Wettrennen zwischen nervigen Werbepopups und den ersten Werbeblockern, und es wurden auch Leute rausgeschmissen, weil sie werbeblockendes Javascript in ihr HTML eingebaut hatten, so daß es auf ihren Seiten keine Werbepopups gab. Popup-Werbung wurde selten, heute fast nur noch irgendwelcher Betrug, aber Banner haben sich durchgesetzt, selbst nervige Resourcenfresser wie Videos.

Die Geschäftsmodelle der großen Internetkonzerne funktionieren nur, wenn sie unsere Daten abgreifen können. Dafür nerven sie uns mit Werbung, von der man sich stückchenweise freikaufen kann, je nachdem, wieviel Geld man hat. Das ist auch kein kapitalistisches Herrschaftsprinzip mehr, sondern ein cyberfeudales: Die Netzkonzerne sind Eigentümer der Infrastruktur und erheben Steuern von ihren Untertanen, zu entrichten in Naturalien (Daten) oder Geld. Das ist eher wie ein Lord, dem ein Dorf und das ganze Land drumherum gehört und bei dem jeder Dorfbewohner und jeder Bauer Pacht/Miete zu entrichten hat. Der Kapitalismus, in dem es noch Oligopole mit eingehegtem Wettbewerb und geheimen Kartellen gibt, wird mehr und mehr an die Wand gedrängt von den Herren der digitalen Monopole, denen alle ihre Abgaben zu entrichten haben, und die diktieren, was geht und was nicht.

Wenn wir die Datensammler ernsthaft einschränken, wird es den Zugang zu digitaler Infrastruktur nur noch gegen Bezahlung mit Geld geben, und wenn es der Beitrag für den örtlichen Computerverein ist, weil sich die Wucherpreise der Konzerne keiner leisten kann. Aber das wird ein harter Kampf, denn die selbsternannten Cyberlords der Zukunft werden sich nicht einfach die Butter vom Brot nehmen lassen. Die wissen sehr gut, daß der Kaputtalismus im Arsch ist, aber träumen davon, in einem Cyberpunk-Technofeudalismus die neuen Könige und Adligen zu sein. Elon Musk wäre doch auch gerne der Marskaiser.

Es geht nicht mehr wirklich darum, den Kapitalismus zu regulieren, es geht darum, in welche Richtung er in seinem Niedergang abgewickelt wird. Wer heute noch an den Markt und den Wettbewerb glaubt, glaubt auch an nachhaltiges Wachstum auf einem einzelnen Planeten, oder daran, daß wir im Hauruckverfahren in wenigen Jahrzehnten unser Sonnensystem als Ressourcenquelle erschließen können, ohne daß die Raumfahrt vorher zu einer untragbaren Ressourcensenke für die Erde wird.

kann mir schon denken warum der ehemalige Zwitscher überhaupt nicht an den Ergebnissen der Forschung über Hetze & Hass bei ihm interessiert ist. Gott sei Dank wird sich das Problem 'ehemaliger Zwitscher' mittelfristig von selbst lösen. Wird wahrscheinlich wegen fehlenden Zukunftsaussichten und nicht erwartbaren Profiten wegen Unrentabilität eingestellt. „Erforsche den Hass auf Zwitscher solange es noch existiert."

Also @EU_Commission is crossing a big red line here that they shouldn't even dare to come close.

Simply by virtue that we're the nice ones pleading and politely telling them that's a bad idea...

Others may not share the belief that the EU and it's institutions are bad and may not be persuaded that this was just a big "Oopsie" and not a systemic failure desired to be that bad.

To be fair, Meta tools are not a right. Social media is not a right. Using them is a choice. A very peer pressured choice. But still a choice.

One of the things I like about Mastodon is that while a choice, you also have a lot more choices under it about where you put what you want. You can even make your own instance and decide you own level of privacy. It may cost money to host and time to manage. But anything worth doing is usually not easy or free.

But lets not confuse a free-ish service with a right. (Spoiler, it's not free, you just currently don't have to and over money, but that is apparently coming.)

I used @noybeu's #MetaOptOutTool some time ago to object to data collection by #Meta.

Yesterday I received the email 'Upcoming changes to your ad experience' from Meta shown in the screenshot below. Meta now actually wants to force us to pay money if we want to object to data collection for personalised advertising.
