Ecco quanto successo nel recente attacco a mastodon.social, si parla di ben 900 spam account al minuto in azione!

un attacco in grande scala che non poteva essere fermato in quanto #mastodon non aveva mezzi di difesa e che ha indotto molte istanze a silenziare in via precauzionale .social vista l'enorme mole di messaggi in uscita.
Pare che ora, grazie proprio alle forti polemiche, si sia finalmente aggiunto un captcha per bloccare le registrazioni dei BOT.

How to Update
Updating from old Friendica versions
If you are updating from an older version than the 2022.12 release, please first update your Friendica instance to that version as it contained some breaking changes.
Pre-Update Procedures
Ensure that the last backup of your Friendica installation was done recently.
Using Git
Updating from the git repositories should only involve a pull from the Friendica core repository and addons repository, regardless of the branch (stable or develop) you are using. Remember to update the dependencies with composer as well. So, assuming that you are on thestablebranch, the commands to update your installation to the 2023.05 release would be
cd friendica
git pull
bin/composer.phar install --no-dev
cd addon
git pull
If you want to use a different branch than thestableone, you need to fetch and checkout the branch before your perform the git pull.Pulling in the dependencies with composer will show some deprecation warning, we will be working on that in the upcoming release.
Using the Archive Files
If you had downloaded the source files in an archive file (tar.gz) please download the current version of the archive from friendica-full-2023.05.tar.gz (sha256) and friendica-addons 2023.05.tar.gz (sha256)) and unpack it on your local computer.As many files got deleted or moved around, please upload the unpacked files to a new directory on your server (say
friendica_new) and copy over your existing configuration (config/local.config.phpandconfig/addon.config.php) and.htaccessfiles. Afterwards rename your current Friendica directory (e.g. friendica) tofriendica_oldandfriendica_newtofriendica.The files of the dependencies are included in the archive (make sure you are using the friendica-full-2023.05 archive), so you don’t have to worry about them.

Ci sono 2 livelli di blocco:
1. Con il silenziamento non ricevi notifiche se i silenziati ti citano.
Gli utenti silenziati possono seguirti solo se dai l'autorizzazione.
Continui a vedere e ricever notifiche dagli account silenziati che segui e vedi i messaggi di chi non segui se boostati da amici.
2. La sospensione elimina tutto, non vedrai nulla da quegli account e nessuno potrà seguirti o vederti.

Se vuoi aiutare a trovare qualche bug e, si spera, risolverlo prima del prossimo rilascio, dai un'occhiata al nuovo ramo e segnala i problemi che incontri.
Il motivo principale di questo primo RC è la correzione di un bug nell'area di notifica. Inoltre i punti salienti della prossima versione sono:

Friendica and Bluesky's AT protocol
Friendica has always stood out for being able to manage multiple communication protocols, surpassed in this only by Hubzilla (a software that I have never been able to appreciate, however).
It would be nice if Frindica could integrate Bluesky's AT protocol as well. Do you know if there is any feasibility study on this new frontier?

Abbiamo ricevuto diversi messaggi che ci rimproveravano di avere dato spazio a voci contrarie all'Ucraina e ostili verso la strenua difesa del popolo ucraino. A volte siamo stati addirittura accusati di diffondere fake news.
Ricordiamo a tutti che le opinioni non sono fatti e che un'opinione non è una fake news, anche se dovesse essere un'opinione sbagliata.
Polemizzare, anche utilizzando toni molto accesi, non può essere derubricato a comportamento tossico solo perché non esprime l'opinione desiderata.
In questa istanza pertanto verrà sempre consentita la libera espressione del proprio pensiero.
Tuttavia ricordiamo anche che la nostra tolleranza verso gli account di propaganda militarista, filo-occidentale o filo-russa che siano, è limitata!
Poliverso è un servizio gratuito (se volete contribuire potete farlo qui) e proprio per questo non è uno spazio che verrà concesso ad account che praticano 24×7 l'attacco sistematico verso profili che non la pensano come loro.
Poliverso.org è una piattaforma di discussione. Se volete fare marketing diretto per le vostre idee politiche o, peggio ancora, molestie mirate, verrete spazzati via!

Dopo l'ennesima campagna di spam prodotta nell'istanza del fondatore di mastodon, sempre più amministratori di istanza stanno silenziando distanza più grande al mondo
Ci auguriamo che gli amministratori di mastodon.social riescano a risolvere questo ennesimo problema di spam, anche solo limitando le nuove iscrizioni, ma siamo piuttosto pessimisti.
È sempre più chiaro che i gestori di mastodon.social puntano ad avere il massimo numero di utenti, probabilmente perché questo numero incide direttamente sui potenziali investimenti da parte dei finanziatori.

aspetta scusa, non ho capito, una volta che hai segnalato gli account molesti di turno (in realta’, ne faccio una, non dodici, assumo che quando lo spam arriva a me, social avra’ gia’ avuto centinaia di segnalazioni), silenziare mi sembra l’opzione temporanea piu’ sana. Fa parte del processo.
Anzi, visto che i messaggi sono tutti uguali e pubblicitari di qualcuno, su pleroma silenzio per regexp , neanche per utenti fake.

Elk tradotto in italiano
Finalmente il frontend Elk è stato tradotto in italiano, è quindi ora possibile utilizzarlo con estrema facilità anche per chi non è avvezzo alla lingua inglese.
Elk consente di accedere alla propria istanza Mastodon utilizzando però una interfaccia completamente ridisegnata rispetto a quella ufficiale.
Il progetto è open source ed è quindi possibile contribuire al suo sviluppo.

Anche contando solo il lato più superficiale dei social network, che è quello che funziona di più quando si tratta di hype, è più facile parlare con diverse persone entrando in un bar a vedere la partita che non stando in una piazza con milioni di persone e sul fediverso potenzialmente si può creare una mappa dei "bar" di tutto il mondo e andare dove si vuole e le istanze piccole sono comunità con una loro identità, non persone a caso che corrono da qualche parte.
Twitter dà l'illusione di stare nello stesso enorme bar con "quelli che contano" ma in realtà chi ci entra in contatto è come quelli che vengono fatti salire sul palco durante i concerti.
IMO l'esplorazione del fediverso è il suo punto di forza anche se per ora è un'esperienza limitata. @notizie@poliverso.org@luca@sironi.tk@w7voa@journa.host

Anybody know if we had a spike of new users and activitiy here after reddit's announcement?
I joined lemmy like a week before reddit's announcement after checking it every now and then for months. I didn't see so many comments and upvotes on posts last week.
The other graphs are all pointing downward, even for statistics that should pretty much always be going up, so I'm guessing, they'll only start becoming useful once the current collection period closes...? I don't quite know how these statistics work either. 🙃

Occhio, non dico che c'è un problema con i regolamenti delle istanze mastodon (tra uso del CW, descrizioni delle img, visibilità dei post, OT, etc), ma ti assicuro per esperienza personale che il 90% degli utenti non legge le regole.
E alla fine, come dice @caronte, quelli educati le rispettano senza leggerle e, se per sbaglio le violano, basta spiegarglielo educatamente.

Per esempio, sono un grande amante di Friendica e ho creato l'istanza poliverso.org che è diventata una delle più attive al mondo, ma riconosco che è molto più indigesta di mastodon per l'utente standard dei social commerciali. Dirlo è doveroso, altrimenti si manda un messaggio entusiasta solo per chi lo manda ma non realistico per chi lo legge

Questa affermazione non è affatto vera e costituisce Anzi un totale ribaltamento della realtà: in realtà è Twitter che ha vietato o reso illeggibili i link a mastodon.
Naturalmente su mastodon non sono apprezzati quelli account che non fanno altro che rilanciare link da Twitter, Ma questo riguarda qualsiasi link che punti su piattaforme che necessitano di registrazione

Beh, "per nulla" mi sembra eccessivo: diciamo che ci si avvicina con
preziose eccezioni! 😉
Estenderei l'interesse verso queste tematiche a molti altri gruppi;
quello che mi pare di aver notato è che la tecnologia informatica
viene spesso percepita come qualcosa di "concesso", qualcosa che
accade indipendentemente dalla volonta' della maggioranza del genere
umano; come tale — nella migliore delle ipotesi — puo' essere
sfruttata per i propri fini, oppure subita e accettata acriticamente,
forse pure rifiutata. Ma raramente come qualcosa che può essere
costruita con metodi — non dico democratici — ma quantomeno
partecipati.
E la situazione mi pare peggiorata nell'ultimo decennio.

La scelta è stata finalizzatad arginare l'indicizzazione da parte di motori di ricerca e soprattutto a proteggere gli utenti da troll e molestatori che attraverso le ricerche ad ampio spettro setacciano la rete in cerca di gente da molestare in base a interessi e preferenze politiche, sessuali e comportamentali. Ma il risultato è che trovare qualcosa con mastodon è un'impresa frustrante...

Bassa scolarizzazione informatica: inutile ECDL (e "informatica" nelle scuole) fatta solo pigiando i tasti senza pensare al funzionamento dietro.
Se il computer è magia, per usarlo non devo pensare.
