Nerf blasters are fun and all, but they’re limited by the fact they have to be safe for children to play with. [Flasutie] faced no such restrictions when building his giant 40 mm foam dart launcher, and it’s all the better for it.
This thing is sizeable—maybe two to four times bigger than your typical Nerf blaster. But that’s no surprise, given the size of the foam ammunition it fires. [Flasutie] shows us the construction process on how the 3D-printed blaster is assembled, covering everything from the barrel and body assembly to the chunky magazine. Loading each round into the chamber is a manual process, vaguely akin to a bolt-action mechanism, but simplified.
It’s the method of firing that really caught our eye, though. Each round has a cartridge and a foam projectile. Inside the cartridge is a quantity of flammable HHO gas generated, presumably, from water via electrolysis. The blaster itself provides power to a spark gap in the cartridge that ignites the gas, propelling the projectile through the barrel and out of the blaster.
We’ve seen plenty of Nerf blasters and similar builds around these parts, including some with a truly impressive rate of fire. Video after the break.

Dalle intercettazioni telefoniche della polizia sono emerse nuove accuse secondo cui tra le potenze straniere ci sarebbero coloro che si sono avvalsi della società Equalize per penetrare nei database della sicurezza dello Stato allo scopo di ottenere informazioni segrete su attività finanziarie, transazioni bancarie private e indagini di polizia.
La società di intelligence italiana Equalize, che avrebbe hackerato informazioni su migliaia di persone, tra cui politici, imprenditori, atleti e persino musicisti, è accusata di lavorare per l’intelligence israeliana e il Vaticano, come dimostrano le intercettazioni della polizia trapelate su Repubblica.
Secondo le intercettazioni i membri della rete di hacker, hanno incontrato due agenti israeliani presso la sede dell’azienda a Milano nel febbraio 2023 per discutere di un incarico dal valore di 1 milione di euro.
Il lavoro era un’operazione informatica contro obiettivi russi, tra cui il “braccio destro” non identificato del presidente Vladimir Putin, e la scoperta della pista finanziaria che portava dai conti bancari di personaggi facoltosi al gruppo mercenario russo Wagner. Le informazioni avrebbero dovuto poi essere trasmesse al Vaticano.
Dai documenti trapelati non è chiaro perché l’intelligence israeliana e il Vaticano fossero coinvolti nella controversa azienda milanese e quali fossero le loro motivazioni nel richiedere informazioni su obiettivi russi, ma la loro presenza nel dossier ha ampliato notevolmente la portata della vasta indagine.
Secondo le intercettazioni telefoniche, gli israeliani hanno suggerito una partnership per scambiarsi informazioni, offrendo “tutti i documenti originali” del cosiddetto scandalo Qatargate dell’UE, che riguardava accuse secondo cui persone legate al Parlamento europeo avrebbero accettato denaro o regali in cambio dell’esecuzione degli ordini dello Stato del Golfo a Bruxelles.
Ivan Scalfarotto, senatore del partito centrista di opposizione Italia Viva, ha dichiarato a POLITICO che il ruolo degli attori stranieri nello scandalo ha aggiunto “un’ulteriore dimensione preoccupante a un fenomeno che presenta rischi strategici per il Paese”.
Il ministro degli Esteri italiano Antonio Tajani ha affermato mercoledì che l’attacco informatico “inaccettabile“, che mirava a “ricattare, attaccare o fare pressione” sui politici, e le connessioni degli hacker oltre i confini nazionali lo hanno reso “molto più grave”. Tajani ha ordinato la creazione di una task force per proteggere il suo ministero e le ambasciate italiane all’estero.
Cameras are a funny rabbit hole to fall down as a hacker, because we have well over a century of items to pick and choose from, a lot of which can be had for relative pennies. In my case I have more of them than I’d care to mention, mostly film cameras and 8mm movie cameras, but there are one or two that are entirely different. My first interest in electronics came through PAL televisions, so it’s hardly surprising that along the way I’ve also acquired more than one chunky old tube-based video camera. These devices are now long ago supplanted by their solid state replacements, but they retain a fascination for me as the mirror of the CRT-based TV sets I know so well. It’s time for a fascinating descent into the world of analogue video.
Electrons chasing light, chasing electrons

The basic mode of operation behind all but some of the very earliest electronic camera tubes is that an electron gun paints its raster of electrons onto a light-sensitive target, and the current flowing through the electron beam varies in proportion to the light at each particular point on the target. This can be used to create a voltage, which when combined with the various sync pulses makes a video signal that would be understood by a monitor. The various different types of tubes have names such as Iconoscope, Emitron, or Vidicon, and while the main differences between those various types of tube lie in the combination of materials and design of their targets. Successive generations of tube made improvements to sensitivity and noise performance, first combining photoemissive layers with electron multiplying layers to amplify the video signal in much the same way as a photomultiplier tube does, and then using photoconductive targets to vary the conductivity of the target depending on the light at a particular point.
Time for some real cameras
The RCA vidicon in place. The tube camera I’ve owned the longest is probably the best to have the lid off and see its internals, it’s an RCA security camera from the mid 1980s. Very sturdily built in the USA, mine is the 625-line version for the European market. Opening it up there’s another echo of the CRT monitor, with the same deflection and signal panels you’d find at the other end of the chain. On top is a sync generator panel, which is far more than a simple pair of oscillators. Instead it’s stuffed with circuitry to produce the full standard sync timings with odd and even fields. Lifting out the sync panel reveals the tube, in this case a vidicon with a photoconductive target, encased in its magnetic focus and deflection coils. This is a monochrome camera, so everything is pretty easy to understand. Matsushita were evidently proud of their one-tube colour camera tech. When a colour analogue video camera is explained, it usually starts with a diagram of a light path with a couple of bean splitters and a set of filters to supply red, green, and blue images to three different tubes. This produced those high quality broadcast images, but at the expense of significant expense and complexity. As colour home video equipment appeared in the 1970s there appeared a demand for single-tube colour cameras, and to that end the manufacturers came up with a variety of similar tubes with RGB stripe filters over their targets. A couple of these cameras have come my way, both of which have Panasonic Newvicon tubes. These differentiate between red, green, and blue parts of the image by their amplitudes, and while the image is definitely colour, I’d be lying if I said it was broadcast quality.
Here in 2024 there’s very little reason to use a tube camera unless as I am you are seeking a partcular aesthetic, That said, they remain a fun and forgotten piece of consumer electronics to experiment with, so pick one up and have a play should you see one. Looking at the whole system of both camera and monitor it’s possible to see the beauty of analogue television, in the way that every part of the system exists in perfect synchronisation. Imagine the TV sets of a whole country tuned to the same channel, and all synchronised to within a fraction of a microsecond, and you’ll see what I mean even though the idea of everyone watching the same show together is now more than faintly ridiculous.
Keyboards! They’ve been almost universally made out of plastic since the dawn of the microcomputer era. Meanwhile, wood is a rather desirable material and it lends itself rather well to touch-heavy human interface devices. As [ProcessX] shows us, though, it can take quite a bit of work to fabricate a keyboard entirely out of this material.
The video shows us the construction of a Japanese wooden keyboard from Hacoa, which retails for around $1000 USD. The video shows us how the wooden housing is produced from start to finish, beginning with the selection of some fine walnut. From there, we get to see how the frame is routed out and machined, along with the more delicate work to create all the keycaps out of wood, too. They’re laser engraved to give them high-quality markings that will last the test of time. What we don’t see is the construction of the electronics—it appears that’s handled separately, and the wooden frame and keycaps are then assembled around the otherwise complete existing keyboard.

Ho sempre il timore che, quando un disco mi piace, sia perché nel momento in cui l’ascolto è ciò che (inconsciamente?) il mio “io musicale” vuole in quel periodo della vita, che sia un giorno solo o un anno. Perciò, forse, il mio giudizio è falsato: la stessa opera, a distanza di tempo potrebbe farmi un effetto molto diverso, peggiore, magari. Naturalmente ci sono dischi che resistono allo scorrere della vita e sono di certo quelli che personalmente non posso smettere di ascoltare: hanno acquisito una valenza che supera tutto ciò che gli accade intorno.
Non so se “Songs of a Lost World” dei “Cure” possa ambire a quell’empireo, pittosto ristretto, in verità. Probabilmente è anche dovuto al fatto che i “Cure” non sono mai stati uno dei miei gruppi preferiti, nemmeno all’apice della loro carriera, quando erano di certo una delle band più importanti della scena dark-wave e Robert Smith godeva di una popolarità immensa. Ed anche per questo mi domando se sia una mia mancanza di approfondimento o semplice affermazione di gusti diversi. O, anche più probabile, distrazione.
Un tempo che potremmo pensare ad appannaggio di Peter Gabriel o dei Pink Floyd per uscire con nuova musica (seppur già proposta, in parte, dal vivo): sedici anni e viene dopo un disco, “4:13 dream” che per i più è claudicante, almeno. E si invecchia, nel mentre. Come se accadesse sempre ad altri, magari perché i musicisti si sentono una categoria a parte, ma non è così. Essere umani è eguale per tutti. Ed allora questo diventa un disco sulla difficoltà del vivere, sul dolore (la perdita del fratello, per Smith), sulle inevitabili somme che si devono tirare, su ciò che ci circonda e che peggiora ogni giorno.
Questo è un disco dove la musica prevale, in una sorta di messaggio che travalica le sensazioni date dalle parole. Ogni canzone, e sono quasi tutte lunghissime, c’è una “intro” che precede i versi ed è una scelta che qualche critico ha bollato come un ritorno, ma senza entusiasmo, agli anni ‘80. Invece funziona, eccome. Dona ai brani un’aura quasi epica, anche per il drumming potente e per la chitarra di Reeves Gabrels (recuperate i “Tin Machine” ogni tanto), nella band dal 2012, tagliente, sferzante.
Il secondo singolo, “A fragile Thing”, è esemplificativa di questo mood, con un basso potente, tocchi di chitarra che ricordano un vento gelido, il cantato chiaro, limpido. Invece “Alone”, più lugubre, più ieratica è la prova che questa è un’opra dolente, che sfocia in “I Can Never Say Goodbye” dove la perdita del fratello è un temporale acustico, una litania dolorosa. Ma forse “Endsong”, la canzone finale del disco (oltre i dieci minuti), è quella che può far risaltare di più il valore di queste canzoni. E’ un brano potente, marziale, tribale, dove Gabrels può lasciare spazio alla sua elegiaca musica, un contrappunto alle parole quasi definitive “...it’s all gone/ no hope/ no dreams/ no more” e quel “...nothing” finale che non solo chiude il disco, ma sembra far calare il sipario su una esistenza intera.
E’ un grande disco, questo: lo si intuisce subito, dal primo ascolto. E come tutti i dischi di spessore cresce nel tempo, per ora brevissimo, dopo la sua uscita. Essendo una riflessione in musica, ognuno ne può far parte, per ciò che desidera, perché i temi sono universali. Gli artisti hanno il dono di farci partecipi tutti in egual maniera, ma non a tutti riesce con convinzione. Stavolta sì, anche per uno come me che non è un “fan”. Quelli che lo sono possono gioire.

I preziosi manufatti sono stati recuperati a seguito di due distinte attività di polizia giudiziaria condotte dai rispettivi Nuclei TPC di Firenze e Udine. L'indagine del Nucleo fiorentino ha permesso ai Carabinieri di sequestrare, con decreto emesso dalla Procura della Repubblica presso il Tribunale di Firenze, 3 sculture riconducibili alla dinastia Han/Yuan e Tang per le specifiche caratteristiche morfologiche, iconografiche e di lavorazione analizzate in sede di expertise. I beni facevano parte di una collezione privata di un professionista deceduto, priva di documentazione attestante la lecita provenienza.
Ulteriori 53 manufatti, provenienti dai territori della Cina e, in particolare, pertinenti la cultura neolitica Majiayao. Tali beni, sottoposti a sequestro dal Nucleo TPC di Udine con il coordinamento delle indagini da parte della Procura di Udine, erano stati trovati nella disponibilità dell’indagato che li aveva ricevuti a seguito di rinvenimento da parte di contadini della provincia cinese del Gansu e, successivamente, portati in Italia in violazione delle norme vigenti in materia di importazione di beni culturali.
I reperti, grazie alla cooperazione fornita dalla Rappresentanza Diplomatica della Repubblica Popolare Cinese presso lo Stato Italiano, sono stati riconosciuti dalle Autorità culturali di quel paese come appartenenti al proprio patrimonio nazionale.
Alla luce di tale riscontro, l’Autorità Giudiziaria, in virtù della normativa vigente prevista dal Codice dei Beni Culturali e del Paesaggio, D.Lgs n. 42/2004, ne ha disposto la restituzione allo Stato estero.

Quali garanzie prevede per garantire la piena conformità alle sentenze della Corte di giustizia europea sulla conservazione dei dati e l'accesso ai dati per scopi di applicazione della legge? Affronterà anche la crittografia quando propone norme sull'accesso? Come intende sbloccare la proposta sugli abusi sessuali sui minori online per garantire che il suo obiettivo principale di proteggere i bambini sia soddisfatto e che le preoccupazioni sulla salvaguardia del diritto alla privacy siano affrontate? Senza le norme a lungo termine proposte, tale forma di rilevamento che ha contribuito a salvare i bambini e a identificare i trasgressori per oltre 10 anni sarà vietata nell'UE. Credo che possiamo e dovremmo trovare un modo fattibile per finalizzare i negoziati sul regolamento in sospeso affinché entri in vigore in tempo prima della scadenza del regolamento provvisorio.
Se confermato, mi impegno a lavorare anche per finalizzare i negoziati sulla revisione della direttiva sulla lotta all'abuso sessuale sui minori. La direttiva integra il regolamento e fornisce uno standard comune per le indagini e le azioni penali, armonizzando le definizioni di reati e sanzioni. È una parte essenziale dell'equilibrio che la nostra società esige dal mondo digitale.

Un paio d'ore fa è stato inviato agli iscritti il nuovo numero di Magda, la newsletter di Centrum Report dedicata all'Europa Centrale. Per chi non la conoscesse, Magda è quel posto in cui segnaliamo i nostri lavori e i nostri interventi sui media (di solito la radio, ma a volte capita di fare capolino anche in tv).

Le origini di Halloween possono essere fatte risalire al VII secolo, quando Papa Bonifacio IV istituì il 13 maggio la festa di Ognissanti, per onorare i santi che avevano raggiunto il paradiso. Tuttavia, nell’VIII secolo, questa festa fu spostata al 1° novembre. In seguito a questo cambiamento, il giorno precedente, il 31 ottobre, divenne noto come All Hallows’ Eve, o Halloween.
Lo spostamento di questa data cristiana da maggio a novembre era probabilmente inteso a sostituire la festa pagana di Samhain (pronunciata sow-in), un'antica celebrazione celtica che segnava la fine del raccolto e l'inizio dell'inverno.
Il ministro della Difesa italiano, Guido Crosetto, e l’omologo d’Israele Yoav Gallant hanno parlato a Gerusalemme del “futuro di Gaza”. Lo ha detto lo stesso Crosetto durante la visita istituzionale in Israele, spiegando di aver discusso con Gallant della “necessità che la comunità internazionale si faccia carico di portare aiuti umanitari, ma anche di pensare al futuro, a una Gaza libera da Hamas. Anche in questo l’Italia si è detta disponibile a giocare un proprio ruolo. Per questo abbiamo parlato anche della possibilità dei nostri 200 Carabinieri che formino le forze di polizia palestinesi. Il ministro italiano ha parlato anche del “futuro della missione Unifil: quello di implementare” la risoluzione 1701 del Consiglio di sicurezza delle Nazioni Unite", , sottolineando la necessità che nei prossimi anni sia garantito che “questa risoluzione sia applicata, quindi che non ci siano insediamenti di Hezbollah in quella zona, che ci siano soltanto le forze dell’Onu e le forze armate libanesi a garantire la pace e il fatto che tra i due paesi (Libano e Israele) non ci sia la guerra”.
Proprio come nel 2017, molte persone che si sono riversate su Mastodon dopo l'acquisizione di Twitter da parte di Apartheid Clyde nell'ottobre 2022 hanno avuto grandi esperienze su Mastodon... ma la maggior parte no. Alcuni (soprattutto le persone di colore) hanno avuto esperienze davvero orribili. Nel giro di pochi mesi, l'ottimismo e l'eccitazione si sono trasformati in delusione e frustrazione.
Perché? Sfide di usabilità e onboarding, razzismo e sessismo e altri problemi culturali, mancanza di strumenti per proteggere se stessi...

The Fediverse Schema Observatory helps to improve interoperability, the botsin.space server will shut down, and more.
The News
The Fediverse Schema Observatory is a new project by Darius Kazemi, who runs the Hometown fork of Mastodon as well as co-wrote to Fediverse Governance paper this year with Erin Kissane. The Observatory collects data structures from the fediverse; it looks how different fediverse softwares use and implement ActivityPub. It explicitly does not gather any personal data or posts; instead it looks at how the data is formatted in ActivityPub. ActivityPub and the fediverse has a long-standing problem in that the selling point is interoperability between different software, but every software has their own, slightly different implementation of ActivityPub, making good interoperability difficult to pull off. Kazemi has posted about the Observatory as a Request for Comments. The Observatory is explicitly not a scraper, but considering how sensitive the subject can be in the fediverse community, Kazemi has taken a careful approach of informing the community in detail beforehand about the proposed project, and how it deals with data. The easiest way to see and understand how the Observatory is works is with this demo video.
The botsin.space Mastodon server for bots will shut down in December. The botsin.space server is a server dedicated to running bots, with a few thousand active bots running. The server is a valued part of the community, with the wild variety of bots running on the server contributing to the Mastodon in both useful and silly ways. The admin states that over time running the servers has become too expensive over time, and that is was not feasible to keep the project going. The shutdown of botsin.space showcases an ongoing struggle in the fediverse, running a server is expensive and time-consuming, and every time a server shuts down the fediverse loses a block of its history.
Sub.club is a way to add monetization options to fediverse posts. Sub.club started with being able to add paywalls to Mastodon posts, recently expanded to long-form writing with support for Write.as, and now has added support for WordPress blogs as well. Sub.club has posted a tutorial on how to add the plugin to WordPress, making it an easy system to set up.
Bridgy Fed, the bridge between ActivityPub and ATproto has gotten some updates, with the main new feature is that you can now set custom domain handles on Bluesky for fediverse accounts that get bridged into Bluesky. This brings the interoperability between the networks closer to native accounts, and makes having a bridged account more attractive.
Upcoming fediverse platform for short-form video, Loops, got some press by The Verge and TechCrunch. Creator Daniel Supernault said that there are now 5k people on the waiting list, and that a TestFlight link will go out soon for the first 100 people. An Android APK will be made available at some point as well.
GoToSocial is working on the ability to for servers to subscribe to allowlists and denylists. This makes it easier to create clusters of servers with a shared allowlist, such as the Website League. As I recently wrote about Website League, it is a cluster of federating servers that uses ActivityPub but exists separately from the rest of the fediverse, and it is started by people who build a new shared space after Cohost shut down. Website League servers predominantly use GoToSocial or Akkoma, and have been actively working on tuning the software to meet their needs.

Bluesky announces series A
Bluesky has announced their series A funding round, raising $15M, using the announcement to give a first look at some of their monetisation plans as well. The series A funding round is lead by Venture Capital firm Blockchain Capital. In summer 2023 Bluesky had an $8M seed round, and various investors of the seed round also returned for the series A. Kinjal Shah, a Partner at Blockchain Capital, will join the board of Bluesky.
The seed round already had investors from the crypto world, but this drew much more attention with the series A, as the headline of Blockchain Capital as a lead investor made the connection loud and clear. Bluesky is aware of the negative connotations that many people have regarding blockchains and crypto, explicitly stating that “the Bluesky app and the AT Protocol do not use blockchains or cryptocurrency, and we will not hyperfinancialize the social experience (through tokens, crypto trading, NFTs, etc.).”
Bluesky also announced two avenues they will start to explore for monetisation; a subscription model and payment processing. For the subscription model Bluesky will explore various additional features that do not touch on the core experience, such as higher quality video uploads, or profile customisations. Bluesky will also start working on payment services to support creators. Not much information is known yet on this, and Bluesky says they will share more information as it becomes available.
Kinjal Shah wrote the investment thesis for Blockchain Capital, which gives good insight in the vision of what Blockchain Capital hopes to get out of the investment. She writes: “With this investment, we’re investing in more than a product but rather a vision of what social infrastructure could be. A future where users own their identity and data, developers can innovate freely, and networks are as diverse as we are.” The reason for Blockchain Capital to invest into a social infrastructure is the new opportunities that an open developer ecosystem brings for (other) developers to build new products, which is also stated here by Bluesky developer Why.
On Enshittification
A common response to the news of Bluesky’s series A being lead by a VC firm called Blockchain Capital is that “the enshittification has started”. This response was dominant on the fediverse, and less so but still present on Bluesky. It’s been such a common response that I think it deserves a closer look at ‘enshittification’ and how it relates to Bluesky taking money from a blockchain VC firm. The meaning of the term enshittification has shifted over time, and both meanings provide an interesting lens to look at the news.
When Cory Doctorow coined the term enshittification in 2022, he used it to describe a process of platform decay. A platforms subsidises growth by operating at a loss, and places themselves in between the suppliers and customers on a two-sided marketplace. Once suppliers and customers are locked in on the platform and cannot easily leave, the enshittification cycle happens: the platform uses their control of the marketplace to take an ever increasing part of the value while while making the experience on the platform worse, for both suppliers and consumers.
What is interesting here is that in earlierinterviews, Jay Graber has mentioned the idea of building marketplaces on Bluesky as a way to make money. If enshittification is used to describe platform decay, it stands out that a marketplace is not present in the Series A announcement as a way for Bluesky to monetise. For a platform to become enshittified in this meaning of platform decay, a platform needs to have exclusive control of a marketplace on the platform. However, Bluesky is currently not taking the direction of a marketplace for monetisation, instead opting for subscriptions and payment processing. This is still open to change at a later point, as Graber has expressed interest in it before.
Doctorow also mentions two principles to combat platform enshittification. Platforms should be interoperable, allowing users can switch to a different provider. Users should also have the ability to control the content they see, and not be dependent on an opaque algorithm owned by the platform. As both of these principles are deeply embedded in the design of ATProto, Bluesky is an interesting case study if the principles that Doctorow mentioned are indeed good enough to stave off enshittification.
The meaning of the term enshittification has drifted and expanded over time. Enshittification is now commonly used to refer to any business practice that makes the company or product, well, shit. There is a fairly widespread negative attitude towards both venture capital as well as blockchains and crypto. People perceive that these systems have not brought benefits they promised, and enriched a small elite instead, all the while degrading the experience of using the internet. This is not a newsletter to deconstruct blockchains or VC (I’m sure you can find your own sources for that), but I do want to point out that public perception of both venture capital and blockchains matter here. Bluesky is in an active growth phase, and part of the sales pitch to get people to join the network is that Bluesky is a ‘better’ place, for various interpretations of ‘better’.
Getting people to join Bluesky while also being associated with technologies and organisations that many people perceive as ‘not better’ is much harder. People want to join a new network because they hope that the new network is a better experience for them. Judging from the outside if a network is a suitable place is hard, so people tend to fall back to simple heuristics to determine if a network is a good place for them. BlockChain Capital might provide valuable support to Bluesky, but this hard to see as an outsider that is considering joining Bluesky. Instead, it is more likely that they will fall back on their preexisting opinions about startups that take VC money or affiliated with blockchains.
The News
Porto is a new free tool that allows you to import your Twitter archive into Bluesky. The tool asks you to download your tweets from X as an archive, and upload the folder with your archive into the tool, via a browser extension.

ProtoScript is a tool that lets you publish Javascript code directly to your PDS, and then view and execute code from any user directly in your browser. Conceptually it is similar to ATFile, which lets you store arbitrary files on your PDS, but this time with Javascript code instead. Both ProtoScript and ATFile are exploring the idea that the PDS is a website, and it seems like there is still a lot of design space left to explore here.

Tracking how the space of labelers for self-identification is evolving:
The Games Industry Labeler now is now automated via DMs, where a chat interface walks a user through setting their labels.
The permissionless nature of ATProto allows people to backdate posts. This feature allows people to import their Twitter archive to the original date of posting, but can also create confusion. The Backdated Labeler labels posts that have a different timestamp than the time they first become visible on the network.

Si è conclusa recentemente a Vienna la Conferenza delle Parti alla Convenzione della Nazioni Unite contro la Criminalità Organizzata Transazionale (#UNTOC) – nota come "Convenzione di Palermo" – l’appuntamento biennale più importante dell’agenda dell’Onu in tema di prevenzione e lotta alla criminalità organizzata tramite il rafforzamento della cooperazione transfrontaliera.
L’Italia, che da sempre riveste un ruolo di rilievo nell’azione internazionale di contrasto alle mafie, ha partecipato ai lavori con una delegazione interministeriale guidata dal Ministro della Giustizia, Carlo Nordio, che intervenendo in "plenaria" ha sottolineato l’urgenza di rafforzare, a livello nazionale e attraverso la collaborazione multilaterale, il contrasto alle nuove forme di criminalità organizzata, che sempre più spesso opera nel dominio cyber.
Insieme alla Direttrice Esecutiva dell’Ufficio Onu sulle Droghe e il Crimine, Ghada Waly, il Ministro ha inoltre preso parte ad un evento di alto livello che segna l’avvio di un mese di mobilitazione in vista della prima Giornata internazionale contro la Criminalità Organizzata Transnazionale (15 novembre), inaugurando in tale occasione anche la mostra ”Cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime: Italy’s Experience’‘ che offre una testimonianza della storia e delle capacità italiane nella lotta alle mafie. La mostra rimarrà al Vienna International Center per essere poi esposta anche al Palazzo di Vetro di New York. La mostra che illustra l’esperienza del nostro Paese nella lotta alla criminalità organizzata transnazionale, è stata realizzata dai Ministeri degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, dell’Interno e della Giustizia.
Attraverso un percorso di immagini evocative (vedi foto in apertura), la mostra illustra alcune fasi cruciali della lotta contro la mafia, il ruolo dei magistrati Flacone e Borsellino, la reazione alle stragi del 1992, la strada che ha portato all’adozione della Convenzione di Palermo, le attività di cooperazione internazionale e le sfide future.
La settimana è stata animata anche da numerosi eventi a latere. La Rappresentante Permanente italiana, Amb. Debora Lepre, è intervenuta in un panel di alto livello sul meccanismo di verifica dell’attuazione della Convenzione di Palermo e in un side event sullo sfruttamento dei minori da parte delle organizzazioni criminali. L’Italia ha co-organizzato anche eventi incentrati su temi prioritari per il nostro Paese, quali il contrasto ai reati contro il patrimonio culturale, la prevenzione del terrorismo, le connessioni tra corruzione e criminalità organizzata, il traffico di armi da fuoco. La Conferenza ha adottato 4 risoluzioni e 2 decisioni: tra queste due importanti risoluzioni sul contrasto al traffico di armi da fuoco e sulla prevenzione e la lotta ai crimini ambientali.
