@mcv I have not followed this closely, but as I understand it, Romania had a case, the case dragged out because of legal difficulties, and the Tates then fled the country.
Meanwhile the UK had a case against them, but could not touch them in Romania, because Romania considered their own case to have priority.
Since then, both cases have been strengthened, and the Tates now face charges in both countries. However, the UK has sought extradition first, so now the UK case will take priority.

My first successful launch of @CoMaps's Android app on Linux, via #AndroidTranslationLayer! I previously tried using CoMaps with Waydroid, but Waydroid does not support GPS.
Very broken right now, but I got it to at least launch after two days of debugging / relearning Java syntax. Hopefully eventually this means I can use it on my #postmarketOS phone!

I'm surprised (not) to see that even the few models trained solely with copyleft-compatible data still don't bother tracking which tokens correspond to which files for attribution purposes - at most they're tacked in after the model is trained already.

Aidan Robbins, a guy on YT who makes really beautiful mini nature/environmental documentaries made a thoughtful video on the subject on one of his secondary channels
Essentially he describes a growing intent to leave in imperfections in his work, and include "behind the scenes" type stuff to sort of make it easier for people to know it's not AI.

Only way to get rid of AI is to take the money out of it. Meta is making money on this and if they haven’t already started I bet they will start making their own AI accounts.
(Which is why I think free open source AI would grind the AI companies to a halt, because there would be no money in it and then it could be made ethical for whoever insists.)
: the problem is that now you can find genAI that creates timelapses. I don't use them so I have no idea how good they currently are, but even if they're bad they still are enough to discredit timelapses entirely. Soon there will be no way to actually prove your creation is manmade and it's TERRIFYING.
Obnoxious doesn't even cover that. I hope for a day when Meta and their ilk is just a blurb on a Wikipedia page.

This is happening to almost every creator. A lot of those accounts are AI bots, off to sow confusion and doubt by claiming any real art - real creativity - is AI.
The fact that AI is trained on our stolen works means that it will detect our creative efforts as AI... and therefore makes AI useless for detecting AI.

Well to be fair, some AI is going to copy you work and it will "look" like your work but with lower quality humor.
the irony/absurdity of this is that the AI used to detect AI production probably had ingested your work at some point of its training from its base model and now consider anything remotely resembling your work as "possibly" made by AI, which strangely make sense as someone could have used the AI to copy your style. A bizarro word kind of sense; the very stuff that stole your work is now used to label your original work as fake. That's just...great. 🤦🏾♂️

I got kicked out of a high paying freelance gig because my organic writing kept tripping their "industry standard" "AI detector." Said (alleged) detector was completely paywalled and just gave a percentage match, didn't highlight phrases, so I wouldn't have been able to fix individual issues. I suspect part of it is that I write like an autistic person, and another part is that when all you want is soulless advertising copy, it's impossible to distinguish the source.
They still owe me a couple hundred dollars too. But they're in a different state and the cost/hassle of going to small claims would have been prohibitive. Also it would have meant dealing with them again. So I'm calling it the asshole tax.
This is another reason why we need the #zuzai tag!
So first they train AI on real artists stolen pictures, and then they say the artist's pictures look like what AI generates...

I put some of my works, even actual scanned pencil drawings that were never touched by a painting software, through some AI detectors just to see what would happen and my traditional pieces were often rated as being likely AI.

AI detectors are just pure bullshit. I've fed my own hand-written code into a few of those and they all said the code was between 70 and 100% AI (when some of it was written before ChatGPT could spit out a fizzbuzz that actually worked)

I use Koko Analytics with WordPress, and Koko can be used cookie-less.
Even if you let Koko set a cookie, it only lasts until midnight in the user's time zone, which hardly qualifies as tracking.
The real danger is leaking information by embedding foreign stuff on your site. I simply don't embed anything anywhere, which is not locally served.

Ieri (sono indietro di un giorno ma recupererò): mattina al castello di Monte Cristo, eccentrica ma raffinata residenza fatta costruire da Alexandre Dumas padre (e svenduta dopo pochi anni per problemi economici). Pomeriggio alla casa natale di Debussy a St-Germain-en-Laye, oggi museo/auditorium, ricco di materiale sulla vita del musicista. Bonus experience: la vista su Parigi dalla terrasse panoramica del castello, con la moderna Défense a dominare la scena e la Tour Eiffel che emerge dietro la collina del Mont-Valérien.

I believe it would be more effective if the deputies who voted against it refused to enter the building and organized an indefinite rally in front of the entrance — until the law is repealed and the initiators of the vote resign, with an investigation into "who benefits from this and who paid for it." I am confident that this rally will be supported by many people.
At the same time, it would provide an opportunity to explain to people what this law means and why it was enacted unlawfully.

Ho 18 persone su Signal/Molly, 37 su Delta/Arcane (inclusi 5 gruppi), 6 su Matrix e @matz su XMPP (ma aperto a nuovi contatti anche lì).
Con 16 contatti uso SMS, con altri 12 un indirizzo email dedicato che ho configurato su Delta (per loro è un'email, per me una chat) e per gli altri bastano le due caselle email regolari (privata e istituzionale).
Chiusura totale entro agosto 💪
Il distacco progressivo da WhatsApp procede bene.

il problema è che quella è la strada sbagliata che non porterà mai a un vero superamento di whatsapp. Se si vuole superare whatsapp occorre o spegnere del tutto il sistema in Europa o creare un sistema che ti permetta di parlare con chi usa whatsapp senza che tu lo usi (come birdychat o haiket ma senza che l'altro debba attivare opzioni nascoste) e che offra roba che whatsapp non ha.

@Stefano Gandino @Roberto Balutsos 🎼🎶 @matz Io non credo che al momento WA sia superabile. Troppo diffuso e imposto come canale ormai anche di lavoro o ufficiale. Io mi sento contento se riesco a far conoscere qualcosa di veramente libero e magari apprezzarlo, quello è il mio obiettivo. Sapere che esiste altro, e altro anche rispetto a Telegram. E mi ha dato molta soddisfazione Delta, perché l'onboarding è talmente semplice che lo fanno da soli senza neanche bisogno di spiegazioni, e l'app è piaciuta molto ai miei contatti.
confermo sulla facilità di acceso di Delta, su cui cerco di dirottare quando mi viene proposto la creazione di un nuovo ulteriore gruppo (funzionano bene anche lì)

Dunque, di solito i passaggi sono più o meno questi:
- annuncio che sto chiudendo WA e che dal prossimo mese non potrò più vedere i messaggi
- la prima risposta di solito è: vabbè, SMS li userai?
- rispondo che certo, per me andrà benissimo usare SMS o email; per te potrebbe essere un po' più macchinoso però, visto che sei abituat* a mandarmi tanti vocali, foto, video ecc...
- continuo dicendo che se vogliono posso suggerire un'alternativa velocissima da installare su cui possiamo restare esattamente come ora senza perdere la comodità o cambiare le abitudini, e ultimamente ho suggerito Delta per questo
È importante spostarsi subito e non tornare mai indietro una volta che hai fatto lo switch con qualcuno, anche se hai ancora l'account su whatsapp.
È importante anche essere sempre a disposizione e pronto a intervenire per problemi vari (notifiche, come si fa a inoltrare messaggi da/a whatsapp, problemi con video pesanti/sondaggi e altro).
Sono anche stato molto fortunato con i gruppi, perché due gruppi molto numerosi in cui sto sono molto affiatati e ho giocato sul fatto che siamo un gruppo affiatato e potremo continuare a esserlo coinvolgendo comunque tutti quanti se ci spostiamo su Delta.
Matrix l'ho suggerito solo per il gruppo di lavoro e ho provveduto io ad aiutare ciascuno nella creazione dell'account e nella configurazione dell'app (decisamente non è cosa alla portata di tutti).
@roberto_balutsos anche gli sms, la televisione, skype, msn erano insostituibili e insuperabili finché non sono arrivati i sostituti che li hanno superati
