In a major breakthrough for the digital rights movement, the German government has refused to back the EU’s controversial Chat Control regulation today after facing massive public pressure. This blocks the required majority in the EU Council, derailing the plan to pass the surveillance law next week. Digital freedom fighter Dr. Patrick Breyer (Pirate Party) hails this as a huge victory but warns that the fight is far from over.
Former Member of the European Parliament Patrick Breyer comments on the victory:
“This is a tremendous victory for freedom and proves that protest works! Facing a wave of calls and emails from the public, the Social Democrats held their ground, and for the first time, even the conservative opposition leadership is voicing criticism. Without the tireless resistance from citizens, scientists, and organizations, EU governments would have passed a totalitarian mass surveillance law next week, spelling the end for digital privacy. That we stopped this—for now—is a moment to celebrate.”
“EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen must now admit the failure of her dystopian Chat Control plan. The Commission must withdraw this irreparable bill for good, as it has failed to find a majority in the Council for years. Instead, it should embrace the European Parliament’s alternative, which delivers effective child protection without mass surveillance: safer apps through ‘Security by Design,’ proactive clearing of illegal content online, and swift takedown obligations.”
Breyer concluded with an appeal:
“Today proves that our protest has the power to stop a totalitarian surveillance system that has no equal in the free world. But the threat is not gone. The proponents of Chat Control will use every trick in the book and will not give up easily. We will keep fighting until this proposal is defeated once and for all, and the privacy of our digital lives is secure for everyone.”
“Freedom is only as valuable as our willingness to fight for it. Now is the moment to support the civil rights organizations that made this victory possible, so we are prepared for the fight ahead.”

in reply to Axolotl • • •@Axolotl_cpp @versodiverso io invece sono sicuro che andrà a finire nella terza maniera: le persone comuni, quindi chi il pc lo accende per stampare e fare massimo due cose, si terrà il pc non aggiornato.
Oppure pensate che il boomerone che si deve scrivere anche come spegnere il pc va a pensare che deve aggiornare Windows 10? Nel migliore dei casi ha windows 10, altrimenti ancora usa Win 7, tutto crackato e con buchi talmente grandi che gli hacker neanche ci prendono gusto.

Il mio punto è che Microsoft con le sue mosse (di merda) sta facendo pubblicità a linux, molta gente sta facendo il passaggio propio per alcune delle loro mosse, altri perchè viene consigliato da amici o parenti

in reply to Axolotl • • •@Axolotl_cpp Microsoft sinceramente si sta cospargendo di ridicolo su molti fronti.ad esempio la divisione videogiochi sta facendo degli strafalcioni assurdi, e sta a galla solo perché al momento il mondo del gaming è nel periodo più buio che ci sia.
Però da qui a fare pubblicità a Linux ce ne vuole. Anzi trovano ogni modo per assorbire la comunità grazie a WSL, che devo dire, male non funziona.

Unknown parent • • •@versodiverso @Axolotl_cpp steam ha dato letteralmente un boost a linux impressionante grazie a Proton. La Steam Deck è stata la ciliegina sulla torta.
Il gaming passa periodi bui per altri motivi. L'ottimizzazione dei giochi è pessima, ormai le idee sono poche, il costo è altissimo ed i giochi che vengono rilasciati sono spesso incompleti o talmente messi male che hanno bisogno di in anno continio di patch.
Poi microaft non ne sta azzeccando una.

in reply to Fabrizio • • •@versodiverso @Axolotl_cpp Hanno iniziato a fare pena con Redfield, uno dei giochi peggiori mai fatti. Starfield doveva essere un giocone ed è stato di una mediocrità assoluta. Flight simulator 2024, mi ha deluso non poco.
Indiana Jones... Ho bestemmiato quando ci ho giocato, e la critica continua a lasciare vori alti in calce alle recensioni nonostante nel testo ne elenchi i difetti.
Gli altri publisher non se la cavano meglio. Ora come ora, trovare un gioco decente è un'impresa.
